Title: 800 drifter solo seat for $80
Post by: kmschwarz on July 20, 2014, 17:44:14 PM
Hi-
new owner of a 2005 800
came with dual seat, bags, rack, sisst bar.  really want to see that swoopy rear fender!

used solo seats are far and few between , and new are ~$400-500 corbin, stock etc
so until I find one, this is what I came up with-
Harbor Freight rolling motorcycle seat SKU 04435, not available online, store only.

It almost fits,(its a little too wide for the stock seat mount) so had to make an attachment bracket and a rear seat support bar.  Took a half day and about $ 10 worth of hardware.  made all parts in my home shop, a drill press and belt sander were handy.  The seat has 4 threaded holes in the seat pan.

see attached photos
standard disclaimer- your results may vary, this information is worth all you paid for it, wear safety glasses, etc etc.

That looks really good, and it wasn't even made for that!  My personal tastes, but I think that would look every bit as good as stock with some fringe around the bottom of the seat edges.

Now that is thinking outside the box.

Think it looks comfortable, but a long ride will let you know. My personal taste pc would leave it as is and even get rid of the studs. But it looks good, I would like some pictures of the actual mounting.

Good job, KM.  Making stuff yourself is half the fun!   Although, I noticed on my recent 1500 re-do that even a "small" custom fab job takes about as long as a "medium-major"  standard maintenance job!!  But it's worth it!!

But you have to understand that not all of us work to 0hi0 speed, tighten a nut, drink some beer, tighten the other nut, drink some more beer. Up here we get the work done then it is get the box of beer and a pizza and relax.
