Title: Pin Stripe Stencil
Post by: hawkfan on July 16, 2014, 06:15:02 AM
Does anyone know if there is a pin stipe stencil or kit out there for the Drifter fenders?  I'm looking for the large arches on the sides of the fender.
Thanks in advance.

The fender arches are vinyl appliqués. I have seen sites selling OEM Kawasaki parts that still list these appliqués in a variety of colors. If not any sign shop with vinyl cutting capabilities can cut you a facsimile.

Or any good hotrod show should have a pinstripe artist hanging around advertising for work.  At the very least, the hotrodders can turn you on to someone to get some tasty custom work done.

On my 2001, they're actually pieces of plastic (as opposed to a flat pinstripe).

I used a 5mm green plastic tape to lay down the line I wanted - just a simple single curved line running along the shoulder of the fenders, and an oval loop, one each side of the tank (refer my dp (display photo) against my tag). This was offset 1.5 mm from the centre line of where I actually wanted the 3mm pinstripe tape. Then having applied and re-applied the green tape (it is just lightly sticky and can be re-used several times) till I got the right shape by eye, I then laid down the actual pinstripe tape and removed the green temporary tape.
The green tape roll was from a paint shop from memory - used it all - get several times the length of the pinstripping you finally want.

A first timer can use this for simple lines - I didn't attempt to do any swirls or loop backs.  :)

You could get the OEM decals also.
