Title: saddlebags, got an opinion?
Post by: cincydrifter99 on July 30, 2009, 20:05:47 PM
OK group, looking to purchase some bags soon and want to know what looks good on the drifter. Leatherup.com has real good pricing and selection, just haven't seen alot of bags on drifters yet. So I am up for suggestions. Everybody's bike is there own art but I need a dirrection to go in..................

Hello,
I bought a pair from Rakposhi that was listed on ebay. I think they look awesome on my bike because they have the same shape as my rear fender. There are two problems with these bags though..they aren't very big at all. As a matter of fact, I don't even know if I can store my leather jacket in them. Also, the hardware that came with them were unusable. My husband is an autobody repairman and said that if he had mounted the brackets onto the fender as shown, it would only be a matter of time before it cracked the fender. He went to Lowes and bought some hardware and mounted my saddlebags. Although they are quite small, I still like them because they don't take anything away from the rear fender. Again, they don't really have a lot of room, but I also have a roll bag that I can mount to my seat for those long rides. If you want to see what they look like, there is a good picture in ebay. Type in Kawasaki Drifter saddlebags in the motorcycle section and they will pop up. I hope I could help you some. Good luck and happy riding. Kim

A lot of folks go for Ospreys (http://www.saddlebags.net/store/p/1-Traveleer-Saddlebags.html), but I've been looking at Leather Connextion (http://www.leatherconnexion.com/).  Right now I've got Ranger II Chubbies (http://www.kawasaki.ca/accessories/vulcan-900-custom/saddlebags-luggage/111_2) and they're great, but mine are a bit tierd after 8 years.  (Hot links for your convenience!)

Personally, I don't like bags on the drifter - because they obscure the rear fender. But they are useful.

I had ospreys for a while, and if I were going to add more to the drifter those are the bags I'd select.

Right now, I use some US Cavalry horse saddle bags across the rear seat if I want bags... or use a square back on the rear seat.

Cheers.

Just bought a pair of Carolina leather slant bags off ebay, slightly used 1/2 the price. 15" long, 12" high and 7" wide . Will let you know should get monday or tue.  Before I bought I went to J&P cycles and they let you hold them up to your bike, couldn't find what I wanted but help with sizing.

The caroline leather bags ( ecno brand is called  heavy duty ) are smaller than the stated size more like 13" x 12" x 6 1/4"  you can still fit a 1/2 shell helmet in them plus other items. I like that they don't cover the whole fender.

I am considering adding the scootworks.com saddlebag supports. Looks like you can add whatever bag you want and they are quick releasable. Also they make a driver backrest that mounts to the same system.

I've got the scootworks brackets and they work great. They are easy to take on and off and they also make a rear rack and back rest set-up that works pretty good. Also, you might want to search craigslist for used hard leather harley roadking classic bags. They have plenty of space, follow the fender and are lockable. Just knock the Harley logo off.
