Title: Project .......
Post by: CDNRatMan on June 17, 2014, 18:04:43 PM
ok I am sorry it is not winter yet and already PC has me thinking project list. But no I am just messing with you folks, but I need to thank Troll who is moved to hero list and to GB for helping me with this project I decided to do.
I am not an electrician in any sense of the word or meaning, but I wanted to add a second horn, but not replace my original horn. Now the 800 is not in itself lending itself to most projects because of limited space and hiding areas. I first thought of hiding the horn behind the windscreen under my windscreen bag, but nope not enough space. So went with my second option.
I want this done for the Biker Reunion on the 28th ~ 29th so it will be a decent but temporary set up. Over the winter I'll be really making it look a lot better.
but my new horn and my test bench to see if I had the wiring harness done right...... more to follow once the rain stops and I can get outside....

Is that an aaooga horn? Putting on on my Drifter too; with a little trimming on the bell it will fit between the rad and cylinder; going to paint the bell black first though.

no room for it on the 800.....thought about black but because the bike is red it might work for me....but can make changes for it during the winter....

You could mount it up on the forks, maybe on the light bar... :o

Keep us posted, can't wait to see it!

You could mount it under the radiator, or did you move your rectifier there?

No did not move my rectifier but not sure if that will work as it is pretty low, and want to keep the trumpet out of the rain or debris, so this weekend after the Relay for Life, I'll spend the time looking for a place to mount it. The wiring is good to go, so that part is simple now.....lol......

How 'bout on your helmet..... :o   you know- like a quick connect camera mount.  Then put a plug on the wires, so you can un-hook to get off the bike for fill-ups and what-not.   You'd be the talk of the town... :D

I'm having trouble envisioning places with enough room for that big horn, actually.  Unless you mount it up front some place, sticking out the side a bit. I'm sure you'll find a place to tuck it in.

What about crossways, right above the crash bar?

oh wow never even thought of that, now if I hurry up and order a second one and mount them like one on each side of the helmet, like antlers (animal horns) with a quick disconnect like 49 suggested, that would be awesome.......mmmm.... food for thought......

Ok just finished ordering a second horn from Princess Auto.

Wiring is really simple just a slight mod, got the rest all done. Just wondering why it is not more common to see this it will save lives, 49 you are now in the list for Inventor of the decade for the Forum.
Same bracket, drill 4 small holes in the helmet and use flat head bolts to mount them and a tad more padding there to prevent bolt marks on your head.

this is just a mock up for now...the clamps will be removed.......

Is there enough room here?  Or maybe a little lower along side the front cylinder?  You could paint the whole unit flat black to blend it in.

Just don't stick your head up above the windshield while at speed....

If you mounted it facing down on the left down tube, painted all black, it would hardly show. And btw, I didn't make the helmet mount suggestion....

Better use CHROME bolts for that helmet mount....

For GB, you'd better use a chrome helmet!  (Or you can just cover one in tin foil, which might be more appropriate anyways!)

ok went and looked at it for a few hours and tried a lot of places, not many places large enough, or with the clearance needed, so for now, till I have more time to tweak this project.....
used the rad mounting bolt, on the right side, over the rear brake master cylinder, seems good. Everything is working and seems to be fine, only thing, and not sure if it is because of the horn or not, but my signal lights seem to be flashing fast, need to disconnect the horn and check the signal lights. But never went near them in any way so not sure why that would be so.
the switch is a old film canister for now, but I have a really good idea for that to, but to do it I will have to take the bike off the road for a few days so right now this will do as a temp job....

Looks pretty good, Ratman.  It will be interesting to see once everything else is put on there.

It sounds just like you want for this bike. One person said it sounded sick, and I laughed because it sounds just the way it should. Now to plan the winter project to make it look like it is meant to be part of the bike...
