I noticed an entry on the mods/accessories page that had a pattern for mudflaps.

Has anybody made these? What's the best material? My 800 had flaps similar to this and they appear to be a man-made leather product, but I don't know where I'd buy something like that. I thought of just regular veg-tanned leather from Tandy, dye it black, add adornments. But I'm not sure how they would last.
Since mud flaps tend to get wet, Deer leather is the best to use. Deer hide does not get hard and crack if it gets wet and then dries out. It has a little stretch to it, but returns to shape also, so if a stone or something hits it, it's no big deal. You can get deer leather from Tandy.
I used a plastic floor runner that was maybe $1.50 a foot... it was pretty durable but too light weight and flapped when I rode. That's why I added chainmaile over the top to hold it down :p
I made them some time ago... not sure what I did with them?? I used a heavy leather that I had around here ( used to do some leather work).
