I have the seat rail for the solo seat , but can't figure out how to install the dam thing . If I line the rail up the bottom mount looks like it mounts to the shocks , correct ? If so I still have no idea were the top ( farthest point rear ) attaches to as it lines up with nothing ? Can someone kindly post pics of how yours is mounted .... also have the rear rack as well that bolts to the struts if pics of that can be posted as well . I'm praying this seat rail is the correct one . Thanks in advance guys . Here's what rail I'm talking about and the rack is the same as what 49 and I think Troll has .
I do know, like you said, the bottom two connect to the upper shock bolt, not sure about the other.
when I get home this afternoon, I'll check mine and let you know.
It's different on the 800- the rail bolts to the seat pan/brackets, and it comes off with the seat.
Can't help you on the 1500- I don't have a stock solo seat, OR a rail.
you don't.......really........well I think your fellow 1500 owners should buy them for you to celebrate your 48th birthday this month......
if I had a 1500 and was a 1500 owner I would be all over it to help you out buddy...........
The other connects to the saddlebag mount. (see attachment)
Let me know if you need me to take the seat off and take a pic.
Thanks Pilgrim for the picture . I thought that's how the rail installed , but the back portion was gapped to far to bolt to anything . The strut mounts for the rack should fill the space .... never thought of that . I'm on vaca now so I'll update this thread over the upcoming weekend . Thanks all .
Ok so I did get the seat rail installed today with the rear rack . The strut from the rack does indeed fill the gap to bolt the rail to it . I'm not so sure I want the rack on all the time , in fact more so only when saddle bags are needed to attach to . I've seen other drifters with just the seat rail such as marsholldolls bike and many others . Are there other spacers out there to fill the gap or are these fabricated pieces ?Here's a picture with the rail and rack .
D1... I have the same setup... Seat Rail and luggage rack, I leave mine on all the time, I switch my saddle bags out to the Mustang Sundowner tour bag depending on what I need to carry for the ride I'm on... I like the saddlebags but they don't do the lines of the bike any justice when they're on.
I must admit... That does look better (IMO) with the trunk than the bags. I've got bags on mine, and I hate to take them off, just due to practicality. But if I had a small trunk on there, hey, that might work out nicely...
Bake , your setup looks awsome , guess I'm going to have to hunt down a leather trunk or some type of storage bag for the rack ;) . Thanks for the idea .....
I looked into that a bit last night. The only ones I can find that are leather-looking "trunk" style, are made by Saddlemen, and they're the "Drifter" (aptly named) and the "Desperado". Anybody know others available?? I can't see enough of Bake's to tell what it is. Troll has a really nice looking one, too, but I can't remember what it was....?

I have the DESPERADO trunk, but I put some extra studs in it..It's held up pretty well, considering I use it a lot for things like grocery shopping (stuffed it pretty full today). One of the twist latches failed, I emailed them and they sent me 2 new kits, complete to replace it.
GB... Mine is made by Mustang... It's called a Sunsetter item # 13323 (studded) It comes with a rain cover, shoulder strap, Y strap, 2-adjustable straps w/hooks, 2-8" X 1" hook and loop straps. Don't know if they make it anymore or not. I bought mine at http://www.uniquecyclesupplies.net/ Give them a shout it's a small family run shop they'll know if and where you might be able to get one. Dennis Kirk carries them but they're out of stock. https://www.denniskirk.com/mustang/studded-sunsetter-bag.p508266.prd/508266.sku
Mustang carries them but they're a little higher http://www.mustangseats.com/product/13323/mustang-sunsetter-travel-bag-studded There's a few options to keep you busy... Good Luck GB, "Bake"
Thanks to both- I believe I'll look into both of those
Bake: I noticed this on the Mustang web site:
Notes: Buckles are not configured for mounting the bag on a luggage rack only. The bag must be mounted to the sissy bar.
How did you get away with mounting with no sissy bar?
I like the fact it has a rain cover included.
This is the one I bought from J&P Cycles. It is now on my Drifter, along with the saddlebags. It is a leather like material, I like everything about it except the fringes: they are poorly done, and really show that they are not leather. Makes the thunk look cheap; needs different fringes.

Mine is designed for the same kind of mounting, but I don't have no stinkin' "sissy bar" I got a couple of large plastic cutting boards from Wal-Mart, and cut them to make a mounting plate on the bottom and a floor inside...
GB... The "Y" strap (which has hook and loop) attaches to the D rings in the back of the bag (towards the seat) run that under the luggage rack toward the back of the bike and loop through the back of the rack, Then I use the adjustable straps and go from the back D rings to the front D rings running them under the luggage rack to secure the bag to rack. I'll try to take some pics to demonstrate (If there aren't any pics it didn't happen) Doesn't take long to remove or attach, I've been very pleased with the whole setup, My only flaw with the bag was the zipper to the main entry was a small nylon zipper that didn't hold up well, I took it to a local shoe repair who also does leather work and had him install a large metal zipper and now all is right in "Drifter Land"

Exactly what I have except I can't find a seat rail anywhere. I've pinged singh but no response. If anyone knows where I can pick up a seat rail (and front fender rail), send me a message. Thanks
these are correct mounting brackets for drifter 1500 saddlebags.

As I recall, there are two spacers included with the solo seat rail which are used when mounting the rail by it's self (need to go out to the garage to confirm that).
