Title: head gasket leak
Post by: darkdrifter on April 11, 2014, 21:02:25 PM
I'm noticing a small oil leak coming from #2 head gasket area.  If it doesn't get any worse than it is now, I will probably let it go till winter.
any reason that would be a bad idea?
and does anyone recomend just doing them both at the same time?
engine has 42000 miles and is running perfect.

Head gasket or valve cover gasket? BIG DIFFERENCE!

It's definitely not the vc gasket.  it's dry as a bone above the head gasket area.

It's coming from the head gasket area on the LH side.
what is that little hole I'm pointing at?  would that have anything to do with it?
I keep my oil level on the high side of max fill, with the bike straight up (not leaning)

ok I got the same hole but never noticed a leak there, it is deeper than a toothpick, nothing I found in the book about it, and at the Kaw shop it is only the parts people and they gave me the deer in the head light look, but I'll bet our super mechanics on 800's GB or D1 will have an answer........

That's obviously the weephole for the oil to leak out of when your head gasket leaks oil.....   I have no idea- I've honestly never noticed that hole.

I might have an answer tomorrow about the hole, but not the leak......
