Hello All,
I just changed the rear spark plug on my 2003 Drifter 800 (did not have time to get to the much more difficult front plug). When I pulled the plug, I noticed that the little screw-on cap was missing from the plug (just the threads remained). I pushed the plug into the rubber boot and it sort of ratcheted as it went completely into the boot (seemed very solidly connected).
My question is: are the spark plugs properly installed without the screw-on cap on the 800 Drifter?
I reinstalled the rear plug and the engine ran perfectly, but I'm concerned that the plug may be installed incorrectly if the cap is missing and/or maybe stuck up inside the rubber boot.

I don't know of any motorcycle made since 1980 that uses the screw on cap..

The only motorcycles I can think of that still use the cap are Harleys..As far as I know, NOBODY else does
Really not sure what screw on cap you are talking about, when I took my plug caps off they just needed a good steady pull up to release and come free.
The front plug can be a bit of a pain, but short socket and a short extension works well, then have someone grab the socket with a set of pliers and remove the extension, then remove the socket.
When you replace the plug and the plug cap it does "ratchet" on and you can feel it going on properly.
there is no real screw on cap that I know of.
RatMan... I put a Cow Magnet (Square Bar Style) on the ratchet, Or socket extension to keep the plug from dropping. These magnets are STRONG! They come in handy for a lot of projects.

Here, in "America's Dairyland" cow magnets are a way of life...even Wal-Mart has them. One of the benefits not usually associated with them is that you can stick your cow on the refrigerator door...
oh ok so then you are saying that WI and SK (Saskatchewan), folks spend time on a Friday night going around tipping over their neighbours cows for fun.....
It's about all there is to do during the winter, unless you go to a bar and spend your milk money on getting drunk, and then YOU tip over...
