Just replaced the original, worn out bridgestones that had 10,000 plus miles on them. Actually rode a 1000 mile trip on them. Anyway, I can not believe the difference in the bike with new rubber on it! You can actually turn the bike without grunting, LOL. I put on the Mettzler ME880 marathons. So far I love them, but only have a few miles riding on them. You know when the wife comments on the improved ride, it is way better!
New tires make a HUGE difference on our Drifters, don't they? I bought my bike with 18,000 on it and a pretty fresh Dunlop on the back and a worn out Bridgestone on the front. The former owner thought the stem needed rebuilt, but after two new Conti Milestones, it's a brand new ride!
I've heard great things about those 880's! You should be very happy with them!
You know, I think the guy I bought this bike from thought there was something wrong with it also. I was wondering myself until I checked out the tires real close, then I knew.............................
I've heard guys like the conti's and get good mileage from them. Happy trails!
Yeah, the bridgestones combined with the rear shock not being properly setup, REALLY made me wonder if I had made a mistake when I first bought the drifter. I had to force it into the twisties, it wallowed like a pig and wore me out very quickly.
Anyway, after about 1000 miles I replaced the oem's with www's - dunlop's I believe... and figured out the factory setting for the shocks were for a 175 # rider... aired up the shocks and things were much better... new tires, new fork springs and Prog 440 shocks have made even more difference.
Cheers.
I too just put new tires (conti milestones) on and cant believe the difference in the ride and how she handles in curves!! Major change for the better!
