Title: First ride of the year
Post by: Troll on March 18, 2014, 13:16:58 PM
22.5 miles. Not a big ride, by any means, but then, the temps are a little low, there is no sun, and they are predicting rain turning to snow over night....The ice has finally melted all the way through the alley, so there are 2 12" wide pathways to the road. Gotta go ...saw 2 bikes out besides mine...a Honda and a Suzuki...Yeah, that me...55 lbs lighter and still working on it...The river is still  frozen...the ice is 14" thick in spots. There were ice fishermen out there. If I want ice, I just go to the freezer and get out a tray!

Do you find your helmet fits loose now? I noticed a bit of change in helmet fitment after losing all that weight.

;)  cool good for you and I have 58" of snow in the front lawn yet, and 48" of ice on the lake as of last night at 1600 when the guys drilled a new hole to fish from on the last day of the season......so ride on and be safe.

Now all we have to do is dig out Ratman and 49, and we can all be riding!

Oh I have to send D1 and whom else a picture of me on my new seat?

Thanks PC but forecast for the evening is rain followed by freezing rain and then snow, followed by -23*C temps........

The helmet seems the same, so I still have a fat head...or still am a fathead...

Great news from WI.   Glad you could get out!    You look great, too. Congrats again on losing all that weight.  I'm sure you've gotta be glad you did it!

Your bike must pull like a tractor now, with all that excess left behind!

Hey, BTW, I studied your pics again and wanted to point out - that seat turned out really NICE.  I do like that....

One question, though - I don't remember you saying - how does it sit??   Does your wife ride with you??

Since the seat is the stock solo, with the added on passenger pillion, it sits exactly the same as it did. I can't say I even notice the rear portion, at all. The dual seat I had was ok at first, but the foam gave out, and I found that on long rides, the cushion was too short for real comfort. Gel added helped a lot, but it wasn't as good as the solo, and the 2500 miles to Drift-In made that pretty obvious....

I meant how does the passenger pillion sit?  Just wondering...

I don't know haw the passenger pillion sits. I haven't sat on it. I'm going out on a limb, here, but because it's a Nomad part, positioned exactly where it would be on a Nomad, I'm suspecting it will be pretty much like a Nomad....Hmmmm

OK how did I get mixed up in this one  :o .... I'm still not riding yet either there my friend . In fact my seat isn't even installed back on the bike , yet  so thanks for the offer , but haven't you caused enough trauma to my eye sight already  ;D

Troll I'm guessing the new pillion sits like a Nomad , correct ????? Being you don't sit on it just  maybe  you can give GB a ride at drift-in this year . Now that would be a picture ratman  ;D

Nope.  Not really. I don't think that would be a good look.

Don't worry Ratman, that's one picture you WON'T have to take!.. :o

This place is just full of a bunch of wise-acre's......   ;D I was just wondering how comfy that passenger perch was.... I've never sat on a Nomad, front OR back....     ;D

Good for you! As far as the mud goes, that's Iowa, all year 'round. They must have more "minimum maintenance" roads than Minnesota! Here's a couple of shots I just took, this afternoon. The weather fool said it would be 40 and rain/snow, it was 52 and partly sunny. There is still some ice on the river, and that big white square thing is a Mississippi Ice Berg..

Troll I spent time looking at your bike in the pictures and must say it is a really good looking ride.  JMPO WWW's would look really nice, but then each to their own, and as for that pillion seat, it looks like it was a factory made set up.
   8) I am sure that GB can fit his backside on to that seat to ride with you during Drift in...........

Neat pics and congrats on your first ride! Went for my first 'official' one today after an oil change. The unofficial first ride of the day was a week ago but it was rushed and didn't have that 'first ride' feeling ;)

(//)Some ice on the river left? Don't worry. Near my house there is an ice bridge to cross the river wich is about half a mile long. to take a shortcut of about fifteen miles......and guess what! the bridge is still open, we were 10 cars in line this morning including some huge f350!! It's one of the last ice bridge still in operation in the province and certainly one with the most traffic a few hundred crossing a day! ......I wonder if someone ever cross that bridge on a motorcycle....hmmmmm! tempting.

I have driven a school bus across a ice bridge in the Red River area, but not around Montreal. Which area is that ?

I spent the summer of 76 in Montreal...lol......

It's located halfway between Montreal and Sorel on the richelieu river, between the village of Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu and Saint-Antoine-sur-richelieu. Did you know that in the old days there was even a ice bridge for the train between Montreal and the south-shore.....cold, cold time!
