Title: Does it matter what bike you ride?
Post by: LarryInSeattle on February 20, 2014, 19:12:56 PM
Does it matter what bike you ride?  It really doesn't matter which one, as long as you stay in the wind.  This picture reminded me of what it is really all about.  What is he sitting on?

That IS what it's all about. He's sitting on an Indian, by that headlight. Mechanical clutch, so rules out our pride and joys.

I'll talk to anyone who rides any bike, I've ridden a great number of different bikes over the years, more than I can remember so I can't say I have any favourites, each one has things to love about them, but as another one hits the market my loyalties change again..the Drifter could be my last bike but I still have a Honda Shadow and a Yamaha R1 Dynamite..I probably won't ride either of those this year because I have only insured the Drifter.

So power rangers on crotch rockets, 16 year olds on 50cc scooters, Harley Davidson riders, Trikes, sidecar outfits..they are all my peers..

It does matter to some - and that says everything about those folks.

I have to agree with John here on this subject, I like all bikers and it is not a matter of what they ride, but I do have some issues with the person themselves and they attitudes at times, so those I just leave them alone.

And I agree with the Ratman; it's peoples attitudes that irritate me. Had the Drifter in a show last summer, a bunch of guys from a Vintage Bike Club pull in, one guy says something like "for f---s sake look what someone did to a Kawasaki!" Looking down his nose at something he didn't even recognize. Seems like there is always someone like that in every crowd.

I've ridden vintage bikes before they were called vintage, just cheap old bikes and they were good, I really enjoyed riding them..but I spent a lot of time fixing them..

now no matter how good those bikes were 50 years ago I would not buy one now, they broke down then and I repaired them..there is not one that I can remember that would ride at top legal speeds for thousands of miles without breaking down, these days I want a bike that will just keep going..The Drifter is that bike at the moment..

Those people who looked down their noses at the Drifter probably spend a lot of money on an old bike which they polish more than they ride it, they call it nostalgia, ..It's their money, they can do what they want, but I have already ridden their bikes and I am not envious of them.

I would own one of those "vintage" bikes just so I have something to work on. Nothing I did to either bike over the Winter, or any of the last 4 Winters, HAD to be done, I just wanted to. All those years, I had to thrash to get the machine ready for the next season. My target was always my birthday in February, but now, all I want is for the snow to melt.

When I set up my Goldwing to pull a trailer, I was told to always bring a spare along.  Well after great effort, I found out they were talking about a SPARE WHEEL AND TIRE FOR THE TRAILER.  My bad.

What you ride doesn't matter. Attitude and how you treat fellow riders does.

Tried like hell to sell Mrs. Moosewayne on an 800. Didn't happen.
We brought a new Honda home last week.

The way i see it... No matter what you ride.. we are all family.. we all share the same common interest.. Yeah, some folks have attitudes, and that's something that can't be helped. But anyway you look at it.. Riding is riding. (been all across the board with bikes on this side.. From 80's Maxims, Magnas, Sabres, to 2000's Crotch Rockets to Cruisers. Loved every one of them to the end.

As long as you're having fun and being safe, it really doesn't matter what brand or style you ride.

You can ride on anything, it doesn't really matter at all. Even riding aroun on a scooter in the bahamas I felt like a lttle badass and happy. Good times.

Amen.  Here I am riding down in Arizona on my 600cc Silverwing.

Here is a close up to inspect my safety equipment.

1.  hat to keep the bald spot from getting sun burned.
2.  sun glasses to keep my eyesight.
3.  sun blocker on my arms.
4.  jeans to keep my legs from burning.
5.  tennis shoes to save my toes instead of flip flops.
6.  water bottle to keep hydrated.
7.  GPS so we don't get lost in the desert.
8.  38 in the dash compartment to keep from being mugged.

We were on our way to see the Jack Ass Acres.  I fit right in.

It is so nice to have options.  I rode the southwest with my Goldwing too.

Here is my campsite in New Mexico.

To those who really understand what it's about.......naw..........it doesn't matter what you ride. The REAL newbies just kill me.........they swagger and pose and stand out front of the Bar at happy hour and talk the talk. It's a whole new world, and I'm glad I'm not a part  of it..........I like the past, thank you......

bikerbob, it is like what I call posers, they get permission from their wives to go for a ride, they ride over to Timmies (Tim Hortons Coffee Shop) park in the front, get a coffee, few smokes. Then ride about 10 miles and back to Timmies, coffee smokes, been gone for a couple hours now have to go home.......

or

they have permission to go for a ride on the weekend but have to be home by noon.......lol.......

but they will not ride with you because you do not have the crotch rocket they have, or you don't have the H-D........well ok fine your lose..........not mine

tires should be replaced because they are worn out, not dry-rotted!

Posers, certainly there are many of those around.  Also there are brand specific guys as well..... and they seem to be first time bike owners.

We all are kind of brand specific types.  Hence why we join brand specific forums.  Being an old fat balding guy, hell, I will ride with anybody on anything.

imo, there was a time when it wouldn've mattered what I rode.
I don't think you woulld've caught me on a japanese bike back in the 40's or 50's because of ww2.  but they are our allies now, and own alot of the US debt, which should be extremely emberassing for Americans like me.
