I know for most of us the weather is really bad for riding, and I know most of us celebrate Christmas..maybe not so many in the states..
But come on, post something, let's keep this forum alive until spring..
what are you all doing, I know some are riding, these bikes hate to stand too long, some of you must be cleaning so post some cleaning hints, others are winterising, some have already laid the bike up for the winter, but surely you don't just leave it there, you must check for damp or critters..and some of you are doing maintenance or repairs or even modifications..
Please let us hear from you, no new mwmbers will be attracted to a dormant forum.

I agree 100% John. I recently joined, and will continue to post pics of mods that I do, no matter how simple, or if it was posted previously. Every little bit helps. The helpful posts we make today will be researched by current and future owners years from now and will help keep the forum going. With that said, I am currently working on my other bike, feels like I'm cheating on my Drifter.

agreed here too. There are a couple posts I want to make, just waiting on the time to get it done. It's been snowing here - that means working overtime on snowplows - our oldest son's snowplows.... :o
Thank you for your replies, but this is the non Drifter section so I wouldn't mind hearing about non Drifter stuff like other bikes and snow plows..we don't use snow plows here, we don't even know how to spell it, we use the word plough..
As for other bikes, I own two Honda Shadow VT700's and a Yamaha YZF-R1 with a Dynamite race tuned limited edition modification that will easily reach 185mph. so I have plenty of work for the winter.

Well. I guess I'll post something, too about my winter hibernation. Yesterday afternoon, I slipped and fell down the basement stairs, and now my right foot hurts so much I can barely put any weight on it. Tomorrow it is supposed to get up to 35 deg, and I was planning to do some work on the seat mod out in the garage. Now I don't know if I can make it out there, much less do anything. My plan for today was to go see the new Hobbit movie...guess I'll have to put that on hold for a while. My wife wants me to go to the hospital and have my foot and ankle checked out, so if by noon it's not better, I might do just that. The only bright spot is that I don't have to move snow.....
I've been out of the country for most of the past two months on hopefully the last of my seecrut misshuns. Hopefully, the world is a better and safer place now, but I paid the price with my health. Getting back home to a civilized place really makes you appreciate how much we have to be thankful for.
It's good to be back with my wives once again too. Believe it or not, I missed them chewing my ears off.

Troll hope you get well soon, I am getting ready at work to close and get people off on block leave. Sunday heading to visit my sister for a couple of days and so a 5 hour trip in a snow storm will be normal.
Working on my bike and getting things done and have a couple of mod articles to post once I am back.
Been throwing snow a lot to, I do not own a plow or a plough, but have a really nice Toro Snow blower......
just sent an email to Petemoss and GreenBarn to help me with a new idea and project so see if they lend a hand....lol.....
It's a little difficult to explain clearly, but here goes: I was down in the basement work room. I started up the stairs and realized I'd left my jacket on the back of a chair. I thought I was one, maybe two steps up, and started to go down backwards...after all it wasn't far...well, I was three steps up and when I thought I was on the ground, I wasn't...loud CRACK noise from my ankle...I went to the walk in clinic today, they did X-rays, said it wasn't broken anywhere...just soft tissue damage. I have this BIG BLACK boot on now. They said to keep it elevated and only walk on it as much as I can stand...They expect it to be pretty good in 3 days...I have no pictures, yet. All my cameras are down stairs. Maybe tomorrow, I'll try the stairs and I really DO want to install the seat and saddlebag struts tomorrow since they are saying +35! Here's a bright spot in an otherwise dismal week. The weighed me and I lost 30 lbs. on my self created diet since August!..Blood pressure 117/78 and 55 bpm heart rate...
At that rate you'll outlive us all! :D

oh hey dude....was to a Christmas party this past Friday, and one of the ladies there was chatting about growing up in PG, and in the course of the conversation I said I knew a guy who lived in Chetwynd and was moving to Mackenzie, her eyes lit right up and she said really, no one knows them little places she said....lol.....but seemed to make her happy I knew were they were located.....

Back in the old days when 600 or 650 was a big bike and getting 100 mph was considered the ultimate road speed, probably about 1966 I rode a Matchless G11 600 cc bike, While kick starting it one morning it backfired and the kickback hit me under the arch of my foot. The pain was intense and didn't ease off so I went to the doctor, he didn't bother with an X ray but told me it wasn't broken and had the nurse bandage it, the bandage was so loosely wrapped that it came off that night, It was some time before I could bring myself to kick that bike over again, but it never caught me again..

Had a harley kicker... it kicked my 90 pound GF over the handlebars... slapped me a couple of times (her and the kicker)... yeah ELECTRIC start for me too...
(disclaimer... I am looking at a shovelhead kicker at the moment... should have my head examined!)
OK, so I should have turned around on the stairs and looked where I was going. I get that...But don't tell me you've never done gone backwards down a step or two...Seems to be healing up ok. Yesterday I needed a stick for support, today, if I take it slow, I can walk. I AM GOING OUT TO THE GARAGE THIS AFTERNOON! Supposed to get to 37, I definitely want to assemble the seat and bags. I'm pretty happy about the diet results, too. My blood glucose was 90, so maybe I will out live all of you...as only the good die young!
Well I was once told by a Padre that the good die young because God has a plan for them, and then people that hang around well they have not suffered enough and that is why we grow old.....so GB you will live to be 150 or so, and I'll be right close behind you.....
Troll you need to go to IKEA and get one of them tractor seats with wheels on the bottom of it like mine they are cool to roll around on.....

My old shovel had a nasty habit once in a while of engaging the kicker gear, then it would "slip off" the gear; came down on the kicker, it caught, then slipped off, came down and caught the battery box on the inside of the knee. NOT considered to be fun. Had a bruise a foot long on the inside of my knee. Electric start rules......

The doctor has me ice it for 10 minutes 4x a day...so I just go outside and stand for a while :'(

As for what I've been doing with the bike lately.......I plugged in the battery tender the other day. New tires will have to wait until after Christmas as funds are tied up in that right now.
Troll hope your mending. It'll be riding time before you know it.
However!?! it is currently colder than a well digger's elbow whatever that means. Last night after moving the six boxes of garage siding (from the job that was supposed to start in October and the guy said would only take "two weekends") I was finally able to push the bike into my shop. Deconstruction begins tonight. Decided that the hot rod project would have to suffer a few more weeks while I repaint the old '99'er. I also have a few pieces that need to be re-powder coated and hope to have the seat rail mocked up by the weekend. Nothing like looking out the window at a snow covered yard to make you feel like a useless turd. Time to get my ass off the couch and get 'er done. Otherwise I'll regret it come spring.
Sorry to hear about your foot Troll. I know what bad foot pain can be too. Some years ago, I was coming down the steps at a friend's house. The carpet on the treads was real "grippy". Anyway, the tip of my shoe got caught on the carpet and my foot pretty much did a 180. . . . yes, just about all the way around. Lots of cracking and crunching, but same thing, nothing broken. So very, very painful for a long time, but the plus side was that I could get people (the wives) to wait on me for some time after that. HA!
It's getting better, but just HOW MUCH better is going to be my secret for a little while longer!

Good news Troll, and keep up the cloak and dagger. Once it begins to feel a little better is not the time to start back in with it and end up hurting it again.
