Well, can you remap a vulcan engine without adding a pc? I know with HD you can just load another map. Is that possible with the vulcan?
I just talked to a Kawa tech and the answer is no. Ah, well.
In order to change a map, it has to be stored in the computer in an EEPROM...electronically erasable programmable read only memory. These special proms were not widely available until about '95, in the automotive industry. Mostly, the prom was socketed and replaced as a unit with new programming. In the field reprogramming became available towards the end of the OBD-1 era.
Interesting. Why is it HD allows this to happen without a pc and Kawa does not?
Ford and Chrysler didn't have it until OBD 2...stating in late 1996. It's all a matter of design. I'll bet the newer ones have an EEPROM. Emissions compliance is the only real factor to consider, here.
