Title: 1500 SEAT "GRAB" RAIL
Post by: jmbo on December 06, 2013, 19:50:09 PM
I just installed a Singh solo seat on my '99er" and am looking to fab a seat rail for it.  Anyone have any photos of a seat rail on any single seat Drifter stock or otherwise?

I'll try to remember to get pics tomorrow of my stock 800 solo w/ grab bar, if that will help you.

I have a grab rail for a 2up, but not a solo.  I've heard from several places that a comparable year V-Star solo seat rail can be lightly modified to fit a Drifter if that helps.  Might give you a good starting point.

Adapted one from a 1946 Harley to mine, but I do have an vintage Indian repop seat pan, pic is over in the gallery. Bike is in the shed as it is 4 degrees today :'(

Jmbo; doesn't Singh sell seat rails for his seats? Here are some pics of my rail; hope they help.

Thanks for the photos.  They help a lot and give me some Ideas.  Yes Singh makes seat rails but what the heck.  There is no fun in that. Besides I like what you did by incorporating a back rest in the rail.  Neat idea.  Let's see what I can con up with.

I think that backrest is available through the aftermarket.  http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/ccsearch.cfm?makeid=0&q=backrest&search2.x=-1094&search2.y=-198

Waiting for his zc to get a shipping cost; so looks to be sold. I'll keep you in mind though, if the deal falls through for some reason.

Jimb,

How's the Singh seat look on your drifter, I have a 2001 1500  (oxblood-ivory) thinking a dark brown seat would fit this nicely.
But I have read where the seat attaches near the tank it doesn't transition well into the tank area.  Any pictures or thoughts on this?
thanks, Mike

I have some photos but they are not the best.  Will take some better ones and post them.  The seat is great and looks good on the bike but...yes that transition from the tank to the front of the seat bolt is funky. Also the battery is exposed.  My solution was to fab a metal battery cover and soon I will be fabbing a metal cover for the seat bolt.  Photos on the way.

I finally got out there to take some pics.  this is the stock seat off the 800, with (I think?) a stock seat rail.
