Title: Hard Saddlebags 800 Drifter
Post by: coope254 on September 21, 2013, 14:27:44 PM
Hello All,

I am new to this so forgive me if I am not posting this in the correct place.  I just recently bought an 02 Drifter 800, and I am wanting to put some hard saddlebags on it.  I have heard that saddlebags and drifters do not really get along very well.  I was hoping some of yall have figured a way around this.

Thanks

  Welcome to the forum,

A few 800s with hard bags and some look really good with them. I'll let the experts give you the details.

FYI these people are really bothersome about people posting pictures of their rides, so you need to get a few up before you are deluged with requests.....

Hello there Coope

I recently installed hard saddlebags on my 800. You can see some pictures of the installation down the bottom in this thread: http://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/forum/index.php?topic=24432.0

I used Scootworks saddle brackets. They're not cheap, but they're very good. The brackets come with some pre-drilled holes and I simply made corresponding holes in the plastic bags and attached them with your regular screw and nuts.

Osprey makes a cheaper option that also look nice. They're not detachable like the Scootworks are, but they're more than half the price: http://www.ospreylimited.com/mount800.html

And finally, here are a few other options: http://www.ospreylimited.com/mount800.html

My own drifter came with some weird brackets that I havent seen anywhere on the internet yet. I suspect they might have been home made by the previous owner. If you want, I could take some pictures and measurements if you plan on making your own brackets.

Here's a hard bag installation by racemom91. She had her 800 at Drift-In this year. You can contact her through the forum.
