Title: Suede waterproofing
Post by: DC on August 16, 2013, 11:38:19 AM
So I decided I wanted to go with a southwest/Indian vibe and was on the hunt for a jacket.  I got a suede jacket (found it in an RV store on the discontinued/discount rack) and now I need to waterproof it.  Can you recommend a particular waterproofing spray for suede?

I've used the spray silicon leather waterproof stuff. Its not the best though. I'll bet pcarrol has some good suggestions though.

Thanks.  I guess you can't go wrong with Scotchguard or Kiwi.

Yes, it's a Scully.  I LOVE their stuff.  They make great products.  I also got a vest to go with it.  That was in cloth though.  I also picked up a western shirt with pearl snaps to go with all that at. . . . . .  wait for it. . . . . Tractor Supply.  They were having a closeout/mark down sale on some shirts, really cheap.

I decided to pass on the glue-on mustache, like the pic above, and try to make do.    ;)

Got to thinking about it some more.  Try bacon grease.  It takes 2-3 coats, but it should work really well.  Makes the dog like you too...   :o

chika, chika, bomp, bau... chika, chika, bomp, bau. lol

Either that DC... Or a Barry White soundtrack... lol

Not sure about the bacon grease... You definitely don't want to be chased on the bike by a pack of hungry canine... Trust me on that one!

It's Barry to the rescue.  He's up to the job on the soundtrack.   ;D

On the bacon grease, the other downside is that I would become a rolling fire hazard subject to spontaneous combustion.   :o

Please do the bacon grease. Then on  hot day as we follow you along the routes during Drift in we can ride thinking of breakfast, or any other meal with bacon in it....

So I could be like the Pied Piper then.  I could get people to follow me anywhere, just on the smell of the bacon grease.

Possibly used as a repellent?   Or maybe what Black Jack Pershing did...

DC... It's one thing to have a pack of hungry canine on your trail... Correct me if I'm wrong... There are bears in Maggie Valley... That might be a whole new issue if they get a whiff of bacon grease ala biker! lqtm

Lots of bears as I remember in the area when I visited as a kid.  Years ago you would see people HAND FEEDING the bears on the side of the road.   :o

So, no, I don't think I want to volunteer to be a bear snack.

. . . and that reminds me not to leave any snacks in my trunk on the Drifter, lest someone will be making a vid of bears on motorcycles.
