Title: Seat bolts
Post by: John Hopkins on June 22, 2013, 14:54:57 PM
I took the bolts that hold the seat off today and replaced them with handscrews so that I can remove the seat without tools, I got the plastic handled ones shaped like a wingnut, they were 30mm long across the wings and I had to file them down to 26mm to fit.

That sounds like a pretty good idea.  Got any pictures?

Like the plastic knob....on your bike black is perfect...some of the others would need CHROME!

Actually, I have seen a wing-nut before.  I just wanted to see how they incorporated in the 1500 seat.  It's different than the 800 seat mount.

Looks like it works pretty well.

I don't have that much space between the seat the bolt hole... its hard to get a socket in there much less deal with a "winged" bolt!

You probably do have enough space if you have a standard seat, I bought the shortest hand bolt 30mm across the top and filed it down to 26mm, thats only 13mm from the center..try measuring from the center of your bolt to the bottom of the seat..you may be suprised..

A nice little 'trick'. I have to rethread one of those holes after breaking off a bolt head while screwing in one of the original screws.
