Title: Cobra Power Pro
Post by: Pilgrim on June 19, 2013, 13:08:09 PM
I contacted Cobra via email and ask them for the part# for the Power Pro and the answer is they do not manufacter a Power Pro for the Drifter 1500, the only one available is the tri-pot Cobra.
Sure would be nice to have the Power Pro to eliminate tuning even though it is expensive.

I have the Roadhouse Dooleys with stock air filter and want to install a K&N.
What is my best option?
Thanks

Our Drifters lack the many of the sensors necessary for the "on the fly" tuners, so the premapped or dyno tuning are what most opt for. If these sensors were to be added I suppose it might be possible to adapt one of the instant tuners.

You may not need a box if you are only replacing the filter and pipes. I did, so I got the Cobra... adjusted one pot... runs great.

Your best option, IMHO, is to unload the bike really cheap, to me of course, then you'll be RID of the hassles and issues of what to do with the air filter, computer tuner, etc. etc., and all the headaches that go with it!   No more people bugging you everywhere you ride "is that an INDIAN", and all those questions.  Your life will be much easier.  You can take the $2000 (or there-abouts... once we settle on a price of course) and use it for a down payment on a brand new bike of your choice with all the electronics and gizmos, and then the new Cobra pro will do you WONDERS.

If you're not agreeable to that option, then I think Chief's advice is good here - you may not even need a tuner.  If memory serves me correctly, I think Troll did some moderate intake mods, with no tuner (??).  If you do need one, I'm a fan of simpler is better, (usually) and I have not heard any major tuning problems with using the pot system.  Seems like a good way to go

What Griz said sounds right about the drifter not having all the sensors required for the higher-end tuners to work properly.  They use input from sensors to adjust the fuel curve.  I would not recommend trying to make these work.  You could, as Griz mentioned, install all these sensors, but now your talking about engineering not just "installing"...

The "computer" you have is not capable of supporting more inputs. Consider yourself lucky, since the more emissions stuff you have to deal with the more difficult it becomes... Yes I did a MAJOR mod to the intake, and it's worth about 5-10 mpg depending on speed...runs great!

Makes sense to me...I put coasters on and still getting popping on decel so I think I will go with the tri-pot.
Found a pretty good deal on one.

Greenbarn...I went to NC to pick up my bike  on a trailer when I bought it and the first place I stopped for gas here they come running..."Is that an Indian" ? Lol.
I think I'll take Chief's option.    ;D

Thanks for the input y'all.

Hey Troll,

got a link to that intake mod? 5-10 mpg that is fantastic! Especially on the crap that they call gas here is WI

Ok, here's a start :http://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/forum/index.php?topic=22452.msg45394#msg45394

example of the results...low fuel light used to come on @ 140 exactly...now 160 around town, and as much as 180 on the highway. I did a test run last weekend and got 47.5 running 75 mph all interstate. I decided to do it all myself, rather than paying a big premium to thunder engineering for essentially the same thing. I have about 140 on the tank right now, and the gauge reads half a tank....gotten as much as 52 mpg, but seems to be averaging about 45  ;D

'I did, so I got the Cobra... adjusted one pot... runs great. '

I changed just the pipes on mine and did the same as Chief, went with the Cobra Fi2000 adjusted pot 1 up by one notch and presto. No popping or backfires ever and runs terrific.

nhtrikes-Are you running stock air filter?
Chief-stock air filter?
Just installed a Cobra tri-pot and I have Roadhouse Doolies and K&N filter. The Cobra is set at factory 3-3-0
I'm getting ready to go for a ride and see how she does. If I need any adjustments I will start at the #1 pot -up one notch. Thanks.

Actually, I had installed a K&H filter - element only... no changes to the air box.

Are your pots currently set on 4-3-0?
I turned my #1 pot to 3.5 and then 4 and continued to get backfiring on decel.

Ran all the start up tests- all LEDs on with switch on, then green LED when started and yellow LED comes on as I rev up.
Checked airbox for  leaks, did not see anywhere that looked like air could be leaking in.

I will ride again tomorrow and make additional adjustments.

Sat am update-just got pulled over by state trooper for driving over speed limit and then slowing down...explained to him I was adjusting my Cobra and he said..."nice bike.. Have a nice day".  ;D
Seems to be running better at 2-3-0. I feel I'm getting closer.

Hey Pilgrim, sorry for the late reply, my youngest daughter is getting married next weekend and it has been a little nuts around here for the past month. Been riding my bike every non-rainy day for therapy. First chance to get back to this forum. I have a stock air filter and V&H longshots. Cobra FI pots are set at 4-3-0 and haven't had any pops or backfires since. I put 2000 miles on her in the last 2 months. Very happy, thanks to great guys on this forum. How did you make out with yours? Got it figured out yet?

No problem...congratulations on your daughter getting married. That is a sad/happy time.
That's good riding @ 1K/month. I attended the Drift-In that was 620 miles but other than that been riding back and forth to work.
I currently have mine set on 3.5-3-0 and it seems to be running good with an occasional pop.
I think I was changing the settings too quick and not giving it time to settle in.
Thanks for the reply and hang in there this weekend.
