I am thinking about selling my 1999. 1500 Drifter, it has approx 74 K on it..can i get any info on how much i could expect to get for it. I understand without seeing it and knowing all details it is difficult but a really loose ballpark is what I'm after. Hope this is the area to have posted this.

There are so many variables that I'd be real hard to say, honestly. Variables like condition, maintenance, upgrades and add on's, aftermarket parts, section of the country you're selling in, Heck, even the person selling it is a variable (could you sell manure to a cattle farmer?).

Probably the best I can do is to say cruise the internet and try to find a similar bike and see what it's priced at. That doesn't account for location or your selling skills, but it'll get you a ballpark asking number. (Remember, asking numbers and selling numbers are often not the same)

there is also one 2000 Drifter 1500 on Kijiji in the whole of BC in Nanaimo

Freshly painted 2000 Kawasaki Vulcan Drifter 1500cc, low kms, V-twin, shaft drive, may include windshield, made to resemble an Indian Chief motorcycle circa 1947.
Runs great, stock pipes for that nice rumble. Handles very light. Great tires on it. Brakes have lots left on them.
Might accept cash and a dual sport or enduro bike in trade.
These bikes are rarer than the 800cc.

These bikes are rare, I paid about $4,600 for my 2001, but the VIN says it was made in the middle of 2000 and it had 15,000 km on it..it will increase in value because they are never going to make any more of them and they don't seem to have any major faults..
someone on here bought one for $1,000 and I think some have paid up to $6,000..however you are not selling it just to get it out of the way, you really need the money or it is giving you some problems and you want a more reliable bike or you have to sell it to buy a car...
Whatever the reason I hope you get what you want for it.

Dogdrifter,like other members have mentioned these are rare rides.I know for myself it would be nearly impossible to let mine go.Once you have established your price I'm sure it will sell rather quickly.IMOP your going to regret letting go of this breed as others kick themselves for this reason.

Hi there, i have had this bike for ten years and i do love it. They are definitely an eye catcher, and although I am asking about selling prices not sure if that is what i am going to do at this point.
I am looking to buy a Kawi vaquero in red and if i do then my concern is that my drifter will sit there unloved. I know the bike needs to be ridden and appreciated and if it ends up sitting in a garage i would want it to go to someone who would ride it. We'll see what happens I suppose

That's good, because we cannot condone the mistreatment of Drifters. ;)
I will NEVER sell mine... that said... I think these bikes sell for way too little. You have been given some advice about determining its value... there are also online bike value guides. These always only assume physical value... not emotional value, collector, etc.
The Vaquero is a nice bike... but it puts you back into the herd, IMHO. There is nothing wrong with having two bikes, a lot of us do. At this point, we allow 3 in the garage as my wife knows the Drifter is now part of the family.
I have two 1986 Honda VT700 shadows, one Honda VT1100 shadow and my Drifter..I will sell the Shadows but have no plans to sell the Drifter..My plan is to see if I can find the guy that froze Harrison Ford in Star Wars to do the same to me and my Drifter.

Maybe Dogdrifter and Chillidrift can change their names to ChilliVaq and DogVaq and start their own forum of "previous drifter owners who sold them and bought vaqueros" ..... ;D ;D
Seriously, DogDrifter, though, if you decide to sell then more power to you. Somebody has to sell them to make them available to new owners, so you'll be making one available for someone else to enjoy. Most I see listed are advertised from $3000 to $6000. There's a couple local ones towards the top end of that range that have been listed for a while.
