Title: Tire recommendations for 1500 Drifter
Post by: smokey422 on February 06, 2013, 20:41:07 PM
I have not been getting very good mileage out of the tires on my Drifter 1500. I have tried Dunlops, Avons, Metzelers, and the stock Bridgestones. I'm about ready for another tire and am considering the Pirelli MT66. Does anyone have any input on the tires they have used? I am mainly interested in good mileage.

I've tried a few different tires (I run WWW's), and the most mileage I've gotten is on a set of Continental Milestones.  Seems like those things never die.  I put Conti's on at about 23,000 miles and I replaced the rear at almost 38,000 miles.  The front is still on there at 46,000 miles, though it will need replaced in the next couple thousand.

So far, quite happy with the Michelin Commander II...over 4,000 miles and 1/32 off the rear. Most all of my riding is solo, @70+ mph. Running 36 psi cold in the rear, 28 in the front.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys. I think I'll go with the Michelin Commander II, for some reason my Drifter ate up a Continental TK17 pretty fast, at 3200 miles it has 3/32" of tread left and I check air in it weekly without fail, more often if there is a drastic temperature change. I weigh about 270# in riding gear so I used 40-41 psi.

I did 4,500 miles on one trip last year on Avon venoms, I weigh 224lbs..I can't help thinking you might have something wrong, balance, tracking. bearing..it might be worth having the bike checked..

John.
