Yesterday as I sat at the gas pump waiting to pay $3.10 for a gallon of fuel refined from imported oil in my Government Motors 4 cylinder car which was assembled in Mexico from international parts, listening to an ad on global warming on the radio - in spanish , shivering in the minus 2 degree weather wearing my Chinese made jeans and peacoat, watching my hyphenated American wife talk on her japanese made telephone, I realized my Dad was right. You can never have too many beers in the fridge.

Ha!! Whenever I get crap from friends for now driving a Honda, and riding a Kaw, I bring up the fact that before this, I drove a Chevy made in Mexico, and before that a Ford and a Jeep both made in Canada! To top it off, my Honda was made in the USA!!!! :-\
Yeah, my Tundra was assembled in San Antonio and uses more American parts than any other pickup of that age. My Goldwing was assembled in Ohio... my Drifter in JAPAN!
Harley has just opened a plant in India... wonder how that "mystic" thing is gonna work there?
If we're lucky, we've all invested in mutual funds by way of picking our retirement funding. In so doing we all looked for constant growth. Starting back when pensions started ending and 401K's took over, we all wanted growth. If our stocks didn't grow, we went to ones that did and eventually we forced companies to find cheaper labor or go under.
We created this and it's all greed.
Everyone's still worried when GROWTH will start up again and feed more of this mentality. Companies shop new countries all the time, trying to find the new, cheap source of labor and no EPA to bugger up the works.
Who's responsible for 9.5% unemployment: us.

Chief after that mouth full of facts, I wish I did drink (recovering Alcoholic Sober for 26 yrs). I'll give the drink to my wife. I too am an owner of allot of Japanese parts. I do how ever own a truly all parts made and assembled in the USA machine. MY Chevrolet Corvette. But I love my Drifter the most.

1SG - had a recovering alc. buddy in the Navy who would go drinking with us and would only drink soft drinks... Anyway, he taught me that trick. I don't drink when I ride (2 drink limit + 1 hour wait). So after two drinks I'd switch to 7up or coke in a drink glass. No pressure to drink more etc. One waitress threatened to cut me off if I didn't stop acting so wild... my buddy asked her if she was going to take away my 7 up and put me on water...<g>
I had a '77 vette myself... like the newer ones a lot more (or the 60's versions). They are assembled up the road from me in Ky - however, some Corvette engines come from Canada and some transmissions from Mexico.
