Title: Ricky Gervais Science
Post by: John Hopkins on January 04, 2013, 17:57:23 PM
That's on our TV at the moment..I just wondered if you are allowed to watch that in your country..Swearing, predudice, ageism, religion, fat people, Americans, gay people, sex with animals, the Bible., mental problems, poor people, banks, everything comes under attack..

I'm pretty sure the USA isn't ready for him yet..but what about Canada?

Never heard of him here in Indiana.  Sounds like he'd have a rough time here in the Bible Belt though.

He stands on a podium with a big screen behind him and takes the micky out of things that are accepted without question..He was absolute rubbish in the office but he was brilliant in 'animals' and science is also clever..It's hard to beleive that so many people pay to listen to him insult everything..

He has been the MC of one of the awards shows a couple of years. That's what he does... never found him humorous.

OK, so I just looked this guy up.  I have seen him before, just didn't recognize the name.  Have to agree with Chief though......maybe that's why I couldn't remember him?

I think he lives in New York..But I don't think you will be allowed to watch his show "Animals" or even "Science" which is not quite so funny..

I watched one of your actors on a talk show over here last week and he was shocked when the host used naughty words..

We do have some very funny men who don't need to swear to get laughs..Ken Dodd..for example..but I can't understand why people like Eddy Murphy and Richard Prior can swear on TV but people like Ricky Gervais can't..

I guess the world has turned..

The best show I have watched in the last ten years is the British version of "coupling"

There is some restriction on network tv, but most folks have cable or satellite tv... which carries everything . Unlike Canada and the uk the government can not ban networks for political content. They do regulate based upon public decency standards... though that is pretty relaxed as well. It ends up being about money... if someone thought his stuff would make money here, some cable channel would acquire the rights to broadcast. I lived in the uk several times for several years and appreciate much of the british sense of humor...not all Americans do. This guy is ok, but I wouldn't spend an hour listening to him. There are a ton of great British comedies and comedians.

I lived in Scotland and England... wish Americans could figure out how to make decent fish n chips!  I

There are other restrictions in the U.S.  You can not malign the beef industry or you will be sued.

Rub it in... I'd ride 300 miles for a good chip shop... ain't happening here!

Law suits are totally different subject. When I lived in Scotland they had a loser pays system, which limited stupid law suits. I assume that hasn't changed. We can't get tort reform here... thanks to the Trial Lawyers and their lackeys in Congress.
