What if, (now don't get all...."you're stupid" on me) you took a wrecked 900 custom, LT, or classic, swapped the tank/speedo, (assuming it's in good shape) engine and tranny onto your 800? Rear monoshock is a normal rear monoshock I've found out so your biggest non-mechanical problem would be to make room with the rear fender for the belt drive. You know, a belt drive designed in conjunction with the tranny BY kawasaki. And, you'd be rolling with fuel injection, a bigger tank, and a gas gauge effectively rolling on a Vulcan Drifter 900 at that point. If I remember reading right, they didn't change the frame work between the 800 and 900 but I could be wrong. I think it's interesting to think about.
