Just got the new pony home from Florida today-- a 2001 Drifter 800. There's a problem (or, I should say, here's the first problem). According to the prior owner, the bike was lowered 2 inches, but nothing was done with the kickstand. With the kickstand down, it's so long that the bike stands vertical and is very easy to tip over.
What do people do about this? Do you get a shorter kickstand, or modify the stock one to angle out farther? Richt now, I parked it on a 2X6 in the garage so it doesn't tip over.
I've seen them replaced, shortened and bent... keep in mind there is a kill switch down there to deal with as well.

Apparently, Voyager kickstands are shorter than ours... that might be a "new" suitable alternative.

I too recently bought a 2001 Drifter 1500 that was lowered and the kickstand (part #34024-1330)is too long. Fortunately, I have a friend that has a new Voyager, and his kickstand (part #34024-0014) is too short. So, we're going to swap kickstands. This should solve both our problems.
Your kickstand is part #34024-1371, I'm not sure how long that one is compared to the others, but if I were you, I'd try to find someone with a new Voyager and swap kickstands. The new Voyager definitely leans too far over and is difficult to up-right.

I've heard of some who grind the stop for the stand a bit. It lets the stand go forward a bit more which effectively shortens it. Also, that doesn't mess with the kill switch. Just don't grind too much. Do a little at a time......you can always take more off, but putting it back on is a bit more challenging!

How did the Voyager kickstand work out?
After further investigation, I found that problem had more to do with the fact that the tires had just over 12 pounds of pressure in them (what was with this guy?). Sat much better after I filled them with air, but still a little to close to level for my taste, so I may do this if it worked for you.

The kickstand swap out was a success, it took about 10 minutes. Had someone sit on both bikes while I swapped them out. Before the swap-out, my lowered Drifter would fall over if the handlebars were turned to full right. His Voyager leaned so far to the left that it was a chore to level the bike.
Now, both bikes and owners are happy.
I'm short and just want to leave the original bracket in place just add one further back. Either a bolt on or weld it on. Vulcan Drifter 800.

I'm not Driftin' Girl..I'm her mechanic, gardener, dog walker and husband. We put an ad on Kijiji and within a week some guy dropped a note and said he had said Voyager kickstand. I don't remember why he had a spare, but he did and for $10, I didn't care..lol
Solves the problem on an 800 that has been lowered and as someone already said, a 10 minute or less job to change .
