I need to replace the throttle & grip assembly on my bike !
Anybody out there done this ?

Have a service manual, but can't find it in there.

Its simple... if you are replacing with oem, the new throttle grip will have the sleeve with it.
I don't have an 800, but I have done this on carb'd bikes before, and have replaced grips on my 1500 several times.
Basically, the throttle is a push/pull deal so there are two cables.
1) loosen the adjuster nuts on the cables to give it some slack.
2) open up the throttle housing. You will see where the cables connect to the throttle sleeve. Note which goes where. Remove the cables from the sleeve.
3) You should be able to slide the grip and sleeve off the bars now.
Put the new grip and sleeve on, reconnect the cables... make sure they are in the right place, close up the throttle housing and adjust the adjuster nuts. You should be good from there.
If you are replacing with aftermarket grips, you may have to get a new sleeve. Its a lot easier than trying to remove the oem grip from the existing sleeve.
Chief is right on the money.
Make sure you get a set of grips with the sleeve in the throttle grip.
You will probably have to cut the left grip off as it usually is glued on..
I replaced mine on my 800 and not that tough a deal.

TC, what did you cut the old left hand grip with ??
And what type of glue did you use to hold the new one on with ?
And....take very special care to not pinch any wires inside the switch housing during re-assembly of the housing.

Ok, I thought you were just replacing the throttle side.
On the left side, you need to unscrew the end cap. You can remove the grip by inserting a screwdriver in from the top and loosening it from the bar... or you can cut it with anything sharp... knife, box cutter etc.
For the left side, you can use a sticky hair spray, or most any adhesive. NOT super glue... it doesn't have to be that "sticky" - and you want time to get the grip in place before it sets. Aftermarket grip manufacturer's often send a little tube of adhesive with the grips.

If you know someone who re-grips their own golf clubs, borrow a little grip tape and solvent from them. It makes left grip installation a breeze and gives plenty of time for perfect alignment. Does take a couple of hours to fully dry.
