i am going to be buying some pipes for my drifter 1500. i saw a set of cobra 2into1 on here for a good price, i am not too crazy about the look, curious about sound.
what i am looking for is a set that is loud and will have a nuce rumble to them, but not exactly wide open drag pipes. also something that i wont need to buy a power commander for.
please any imput would be greatly appreciated.
also so far i am looking at the vance and hines longshots anyone else have them?
i have long shots...great sounding pipes...every place i go i get compliments ....
my 2 cents
Have owned a 1500 classic that I put V&H pipes on. A little louder than I wanted but still sounded Great. Just bought a 1500 Drifter and it has Long Shots on. they are a little more mellow and throaty than the ones on the classic. I like them a lot better. When they open up at high throttle they really sound mean. V&H Long Shots highly reccommended.
*****Do not buy if you like quiet*****
vh long shots great sound and looks
Long Shots ROCK!
I've heard the Cobra 2-1's and they were a lot quieter than I expected. I have V&H Straight Shots on my 1500 Drifter and Long Shots on the 1500 Classic. The Longs are mellower than the Straights. (I actually prefer the Straights).
thank you for all the imput, now could you tell me if i will have to run a power commander or anything?
I have the V&H Long shots, marbled the reed valves to stop the popping, and the rest of the motor is bone stock. Runs like a champ, and I get 47-48 MPG if I just ride normally and not "play" too much with the twisty thing on my right hand.
i have the cobra fi 2000...it take all the popping out and is tunable. i think its money well spent.....and very easy to install.

Yeah, I have the cobra fi2000 as well. Works for me.
cant afford both right now. does it really make that big of a difference? what is this marble trick all about? down the road i can get a fi2000 but will it be ok for the last few days of the riding season i have left?
I don't have an after market FI on either of my 1500 with V&H's. Very little popping and get good gas mileage (one day at Hell's Canyon I got 55 mpg).
The marble trick! Super easy, super cheap, and super effective!

Marble trick has to do with blocking some epa smog stuff with marbles. IMHO the best way is to remove the stuff entirely and use coasters... no marbles needed.

True.....I just went for the cheap, easy way. Blocking off the reed valves is the proper way to go about it. Then again, my marble has been in there for nearly 20,000 miles now, so something must be working right!
I have Hard khrome American, The main difference between them and Lons shots is Hard Khrome headers are one piece pipes. Long shots are two piece if my memory serves me correctly. No bluing of the chrome, does have a loud deep sound some don't like. Comes without baffles, but are available.
