So, during your down time this winter, what do you plan on doing to that ride of yours to make it even sweeter then it is already?
I'm not sure about much for my own ride, but I did notice that the back of my Harley toolbox could use some black paint. It's mounted where the rectifier used to be, and I never noticed the backside til I shot this pic the other day. Looks pretty ugly!

Other then that, maybe I'll do some more leather work. Maybe some custom fork covers?
So what's on your agenda?
after I give it a really nice wash job outside and get it into the living room...... ;) get it lined up with the TV for ease of veiwing and relaxing..... I will then spend the time doing some polishing and try and remove some marks and scratches from the fenders and tank. Then I have a really nice Indian head fender light to mount, front fender guard. Sissy bar for the seat too. I also want to powder coat a few parts so they will have to be removed for that. Then to finish it off do the spotlights for the front that I want, and that is my winter plans, other then a bit of time on the ice, fishing, and going to the curling club to watch some ends played. Nothing as good as fresh caught pickeral (walleye) from under the ice.
oh pcarrell, now to really mess with you. I'll not say anything bad today. Just to say that your ride is a really nice looking machine.
Well thank you, but you know they're never REALLY done, right?
You reminded me....I have one of those Indian fender lights stashed away!
Maybe I can come up with something in MY COZY HEATED GARAGE! ;D Cable TV, and all my tools (and air compressor for those more radical tools) right at my finger tips!
Now, if I can find some buffalo leather (might know where to get some), I've been thinking about a front fender bib to match my tank bib and rear fender bib. Hmmmmm.........mount the bib, then mount the fender light on top of it.......run the wires for the light inside........if I have some leftover leather, a drive shaft cover.........
See, this is why I wanted to know what you guys were up to this winter! You guys get those "creative juices" flowing!
Now, what to do with that 1950's Harley spark plug box I picked up at a swap meet.......any ideas? It's just too cool to not use for something. Here it is: http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Drifter/IMG_0613.jpg (http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Drifter/IMG_0613.jpg)
;)Well you could send it to your poor northern buddy and I could use it to cover that hole in front of the rectifier.........
just a thought ;D
It's only about 1 1/2" by 2 1/2", so I don't think it'd do the job.
Well, this won't necessarily make my ride any better, but earlier this year I volunteered to come up with a back rest bracket for the 1500 that does not require the seat rail. I have not forgotten, and hope to get to that this winter. So wish me luck on that if you will, I look forward to this little endeavor and will definitely post when it is done.

So will this be for the solo seat, or the 2up Corbin setup (since it doesn't need the rail)?
I addition to the usual spit and polishing, oil change, and general winterizing, not sure but I might give it a new coat of paint. The current paint is very good but very stock looking. I am thinking it needs a more classic look. Here is where I am at this point and what I'm thinking for the future.
Black and Red sure do say "classic"!

This will be for the stock solo; that is what I have, and haven't seen but one other Drifter in these parts to use for a different seat arrangement.

Winter work... I think I'll send my seat back to corbin to get fitted a little. Other than that I finally got some tank emblems I like - I want to customize them and get them on. Maybe make a fork bag. Drain/fill front forks. New chain/sprockets. That's all I can think of right now...
Been puttin' off the fork job myself.............
After I heal up, I will be doing the back rest mount for 1500's, then I think I will build a tank shift and foot clutch set-up for the beast. :-\ Just because I want one. :)

Right or left handed?
Always wondered how people used those hand shifters on a modern bike...you need the left hand for the clutch, and the right for the throttle....seems like it'd be pretty hard to do a smooth shift by taking your hand off the throttle to work the shifter...My '45, and my '49 were both hand shift...left side of the tank, foot clutch....easy to shift smoothly
Your shifts will be slow, lazy shifts, that's all.
Sure you do.....how else do you destroy that Harley CVO in the other lane at the stop light derby? With the hydraulic clutch, maybe converting to a foot clutch and left side tank shift would be an option....
Left side shift with a foot clutch would be way better, of course, but my racing days are pretty much behind me anyways............
Left side shift.... and foot clutch.....some people shouldn't speed-read...... ;D ;D LOL see my previous post......LOL This on the Harley)

I was mainly trying to figure out how people use the kits I see on bikes in real world riding, or do they just have them on for show....Left foot clutch, right hand shift, and left hand throttle would be more Indian like, but the issue would be with the throttle assy. Some Indians had the shift converted to left side. I've met this guy before, and he actually rides this all original chief...just not too much. The other pic. is an all original chief without the conversion.
Indian did build a number of bikes with right throttle-left shift; a riding buddy of mine owned some like that. Indian built service bikes for police departments and military with the right shift-left throttle design; easier to shoot at the bad guy while chasing him I guess. ;D

Cool pictures Troll. Are those types of tires avail in our sizes?. They just look like long runners. I see them here and there but I don't know much about the manufacturer. I'll check jpcycle.
They show an Avon Safety Mileage. 5.0 -16. I'm sure you've ran these types of tires. But since your running the Commander 2's I guessing they are not great performers. Sorry to sidetrack the thread again.
So the side shift guys on your Drifters, do you use them?
Very cool pictures....
