Well went for a run up the north hwy, Hwy 11 North and what a fantastic sight. That nature has the colour red so varied in its depth and hues is really awesome. I tried to get a decent picture but my camera was not cooperating with the idea. The ambient temps were in the 6 to 9*C or 42.8, 48.2*F range. So at 100kms (65 miles per hour) I was trying to figure the wind chill, then fell asleep, no I was home by then...lol....oh well.....
The colours along hwy 64 through the back country was really nice and such different colours, the yellow/reds, pale green, dark green, brown, tan, in the leaves was really an awesome ride, loads of moose hunters are out too and lots of ATV's. This means summer is over and that fall will be over really soon to and time to get my snowblower out once more.
Luckily, here in Mississippi, we have another few months before most people put up their bikes..
Since it is my daily driver, I only took the car to work 5 times since last October..(snow, and Heavy rain).
When I lived in Colorado Springs, I rode all year except when there was snow on the road..
Even when the temps were in the teens, (Fahrenheit) I still rode..
You just have to dress for it..
I live it when the seasons change..
Here the best fall ride is the Natchez trace, good roads, 50mph limit, no commercial traffic, you can travel from Nashville to Natchez ms.

The leaves are changing here in Indiana too. It means some of the best rides (scenery wise) here, but also the end of riding without heavy gear. I too ride most of the year, but I'll miss passing other riders on the roads. Here's to hoping that it's not too long of winter.........
Things here in Wisconsin are quickly running into a hit a miss situation weather wise. Highs in the 60's this week. Heading into the 50's by the weekend. Nothing long rang looks any better for the near future. Iv'e ridden in 30 degree weather but it takes the fun out of it. For a guys who has owned his new Drifter for two days, the season is way too short.
Where in Wisconsin? I'm in La Crosse. They are predicting 80 for Wed, and 50 by Friday...Canadian air moving in.
I'm in Burlington southwest of Milwaukee. Planning to ride most of today. Supposed to rain tomorrow :-[ but Thursday I should be back in the saddle. Beyond that is anyone's guess.

Don't feel too bad.....I bought my ride in mid November a few years back. Insulated chaps, long johns, good gloves and boots (those thermal hand warmers that hunters use are great), a warm jacket with a hoodie under it, and a full face helmet will allow you to ride anytime there isn't snow or ice on the roads.

now that sounds like the way I dress when going out in Nov on my sled, sorry snow machine, because I have yet to see Nov were we can be riding a bike, here....

The only time you ride bikes in November in the Great White North, is on a frozen lake with screws screwed into the offroad tires for traction.
All though November is a little early in the season, the ice may not be thick enough for racing. (there again, depends how far north you live)

People have often said I'm nuts...........
I have some friends who ice race...usually during the winter carnival that's held in Winona, Mn. They even have a rubber tire class, too. I went out to use up some of the last nice days we will have...took a little trip to Apple Blossom Drive in La Crescent, Mn. Overlooks the Mississippi...so here's a picture, I know how you guys love pictures...The colors are still turning here..give it another week, and they'll be at peak. The weather is supposed to go to cr@p Thursday....
45 lol grew up doing that and we put them spikes in the tires....and they really hurt if you get run over...lol...I can show you the marks.....
I'll go out this Thanksgiving Weekend and get some really nice pictures if the weather allows it, want to get a few rides in yet....yes we have our Thanksgiving in Oct.....to be thankful that winter is coming and ice fishing, sleds on the ice, pond hockey, and all them wonderful winter sports are here....lol....and curling too
Curling, definitely not a sport.....
Despite what the Olympic committee says.....
I have ice raced a 2 times, and was lucky enough that when i wrecked, noone was on top of me...
I also spent some time in Alaska..
Oh those winter nights, parking on layers of cardboard over night so the heat in your tires didn't melt the ice and then re freeze, part of the heating system in the camper is tied in to the vehicle's radiator system so you can keep the camper warm while you drive.
Then starting in the morning driving slowly until your tires stop having a flat side...
Oh the life at -20 deg f.
In the 70's My dad enjoyed hunting large game in remote places, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, Alaska, we didn't fly, we drove.
In a caravan of about 15 people, in several vehicles, I will have to dig up photos, (pre digital camera days) scan them & post some.
I know, not all of Canada is that way...
But every time we went hunting, where ever we went hunting, the radio always seem to say, this is the coldest it has been in years.....
45 Bravo
That's a sweet lookin' ride Troll!
Very nice Troll....
QuoteThen starting in the morning driving slowly until your tires stop having a flat side...
that is the fun part of the day early morning getting to the salt mine to get a pay cheque....lol...
QuoteBut every time we went hunting, where ever we went hunting, the radio always seem to say, this is the coldest it has been in years.....
lol that is only on non Canadian radios they say that to sacre off the tourists......lol....
wait till you have to lite your camp stove and slide it under the oil pan to thaw it out to start the engine......and after -40* it is all the same so who cares.....
Curling not a SPORT...well......you must be a dart player or bowler then...... :P ;)
I had to put an electric frying pan under the oil pan of my 71 Plymouth one winter. Blocked it up with bricks so it was actually touching the pan, and left it for most of a day...the little red line in the thermometer outside the garage had completely disappeared!
Thanks for the kind words about the bike. I'm pretty happy with it, and plan on keeping it so the next owner will have to get it from my estate...It was a barn find, and the restoration and customization has come a long way. It's not perfect, but it's my daily ride, not a trailer queen, so wear and tear are inevitable...but from 20 feet away, it looks good. I HATE WINTER>>>makes me wonder why I still live here.
Snow on the ground here already, early this year. Hope an early winter means an early spring..... who am I kidding, LOL. Around here, we have 2 seasons; 8 months winter, and 4 months poor sledding!! ;D
Regards and such,
49Reo
Snow already and that sucks, :o hope it does not stay yet for you, I remember being that way years ago on a camping trip in the Van with my ex and a few others. Cold Lake AB to Hinton, then 97 to Grande Praire and over to Prince George on the 97 I think it was. Really nice area around there. Here the caterpillers are calling a short but wicked winter. Local natives are calling for a long and bitter winter, so I am geting my Toro tuned and my boots out and get ready to move snow again. I'll ship it down to my bussy Chilli and 45 so they can practice curling. ;)
Yes that is a nice bike Troll. I like the colors.
As for the extreme cold up north, we never lit the boilers under our vehicles, when it was really cold and we were traveling, we just let them run all night. (no block heaters on our 1st trip over the border)
When in Upper Alaska one winter we stopped at a diner, on our way in i looked at this funny parking meter... it had an outlet on it to hook to your car's block heater, insert a quarter, and turn the knob...
My oldest brother never liked hunting or outside activities unless it involved 2 wheels and a throttle..
he has been working on and tinkering with engines since he was 6. He had worked on just about everything under the sun until he came to Colroado to visit me.
He stated i had 2 things he had never laid a hand on in his 50 years of engines, so one evening i had him help get the snow blower and snowmobile ready for the season.
While in Colorado Springs, the winters were pretty nice, It would snow 1 day, then not for 2 weeks or so, and warm up to 50 during the days, then repeat the sequence again.
But in November or early December, there would be a week where the high would be 5 deg.F. during the day. then back to normal.
March and April would be our snowiest months, I have seen it snow on the top of Pikes peak on July 3rd. it wouldn't stick, but it would snow.
June in Colorado Springs, don't plan anything outside between 2&4pm, it would rain every day.
Sometimes when it would rain, it would hail also.
A lot of cars there looked like a golf ball.
Other than that... Sunshine!
45 Bravo
Around these parts, come winter, it only snows twice a week; once for 4 days, and once for 3..... .lol ;D As to the post by CDNRatMan, I live about 100 km (62 miles to you "southern" folk) south of Dawson Creek B.C. towards Prince George on Highway 97, in a little town called Chetwynd. And yes, I too hope the snow goes bye-bye and warmer weather comes back; not quite ready to mothball the bikes yet.... not that I ever am ready to put them away. :(
Regards and such,

45 I too lived in CO Springs for 5 years, 2448 Ironhorse Trail in Old farm....lol off of Galley. So I know the weather quiet well. I worked at the Transportation Motor Pool in Ft Carson for 4 years. Goose Bay LB was the coldest place I have ever parked my backside other then at CFS Alert or CFS Churchill, but then normal people do not go there to visit or live.....lol
I have never claimed to be normal.

Well...not to hijack a thread....Here's another picture of Fall colors in Wisconsin...We have a park on top of a bluff overlooking the "city" and the Mississippi...on a clear day (this ones not too bad) you can see all the way to Iowa.
No problems Troll pictures are always enjoyed.......
45 seems as if the neighbourhood covenents would not let you stay long....lol
I ran afoul of our neighbourhood witches with my 89 Ford Ranger 4x4 being parked in the driveway over night ......and then to really make it worse the Day I flew a Canadian Flag off my garage in honour of Canada Day...I was close to being lynched....lol.......but the best was when the whole neighbourhood switched to a different trash company...and I was the lone hold out....I actually got a summons to appear at their next meeting. So I had to go and explain that I was a Canadian and the Canadian Goverment was footing my trash bill and i had no say over who was used....I felt like I farted in church that nite.......lol.....
Quite the attitude you have..........I like it!!LOL Reminds me of when one of my neighbors said I had no rights in Canada or right to be here since I am American...needless to say, I am still here, she is not. 'Nuff said.

Oh no real problems with the covenants, except maybe Piute, (something about shooting a deer in your own back yard during hunting season)..
Hey there was no houses behind us, just woods and mountain. we were on the back side of the loop..and he was just standing there with 3 of his friends...
the neighborhood in fountain was being slowly over run by crack/meth heads so we sold & moved, to greenwich circle, moved from there after mom died(we had been caring for her since 98) to a smaller place as it was just my wife and daughter and i moved to piute then left there to move here to mississippi..
Pretty area there Troll, I will probably ride the trace some this weekend, and will try to get some good ones.
Put a note in a bottle, throw it in the Mississippi river and see if you get a call back, that would be neat..
You know one of those indestructible sports bottles that is a bright color..
I wonder how far it would go..
Later guys.
Enjoy the weather while you can.
50deg F here today high of 70
Yeah, it's pretty nice around here at times. The bottle would probably get about to lock and dam 8 in Genoa, which is about 10 miles, if it didn't get sucked into a backwater. The Mississippi is not a straight shot, at least in this area. When someone falls in and drowns, the police look at a couple of down stream boat landings, and the bodies usually show up there...they don't get too far.

Tuesday's color ride - Holy Hill - Richfield, WI
Very nice. Our leaves are pretty much gone already; the odd tree will have a few, and that's it. It got up to a whopping 48F yesterday; supposed to get to lo 50's today, and a bit warmer on Friday. I just might have to go for s ride, before snow-plowing season arrives>

North Bay ON, Canada on the 02/10/12 on the way to work......need to find a few more nice places to take pictures....
Yes Troll, here it is somewhat wider and deeper I am sure. (Memphis it is almost 500 yards wide in some places, and deep enough for some ocean going traffic.)
a lot of water volume flowing here.
Oh well enough of that, Now back to your regularly scheduled thread..
Pretty fall colors...
45 Bravo
Ok...so here's a shot of one of the bluffs...looking from ground level....they all have names, but I have no idea what they are.
You men up North of the border should consider wintering down here so you can ride more often. There's a Timmys in every town of 10,000 or more.
yes timmies but do they serve poutine? no do youall curl no and hockey well not fair as they are locked out...
I lived in CO and honest after 4 years of no real winter I came to miss it, perhaps I'll come down for a visit after I win the big lottery and you don't have to feed me or pay for my gas...lol
now if i had the monies that 45 has I would be treating all my buddies........
you must mean 49REO, because 45 Bravo is not in the money.
we are in the same boat, when i win the lottery I would be happy to come visit you in canada..
AND go for a ride... AND treat you to lunch..
45 Bravo
Oh you're funny, 45 Bravo! My ship ain't coming in; I just got word, it went down at sea; just missed the edge of the continental shelf, straight to the bottom,LOL. I need to win a lottery too; then maybe I can afford to move where it is warm. And be able to ride more. Where it's warmer. And I'll spring for lunch. Maybe. ;D
Regards and such,
49Reo
49 you say if you win you may buy lunch..
If I win the lottery, I will wear a t shirt like a guy I used to know used to wear.
It said "yes I have a dollar for each of you"
His name is Richard Davis he started Second Chance body armor..
We met in the 80's at a pistol tournament he was giving a product demo at..

@---->CDNRatMan
yes timmies but do they serve poutine? no do youall curl no and hockey well not fair as they are locked out...
nope, no poutine,..biscuits and gravy, no curling,..horseshoes or its sadly named step sister cornhole and we do have a hockey team in OH now.. They pretty much suck when they aren't locked out and if the higherups dont get their ship together, will likely be sold one of these days.
I guess I'd miss real winter too after awhile. The seemingly constant weather cycle down here in southern OH keeps you busy. But I've really enjoyed riding more this year than ever as I bought the Drifter this May, 10k miles later and Im hoping for another mild winter. We are starting to peak with the colors on the southern facing slopes. With clouds and cold in the forceast in the upcomming week it may or may not be a big show for the leaf lookers from the big city.
;)ok positive thinking lads....tonite's Lotto Max is 50 million, so greed person I am I will keep 5 mil for me. The rest will go to chairities, and some will go to holding my own personal Drift in. Which of course will be open to all and I'll even let 49 and 45 attend and I'll spring for your meals and drinks. Chili I can cover you and Troll too. See I can be nice sometimes. So think positivethink of me winning that loto and we are going to have some fun.
I'll go you one better, CDN, if I win, I'll invite the whole works from this forum up here for Timmies, I'll even import some poutine for those lovers of cholesterol bombs! Catch is, you'll have to come when it is -40 and up to your armpits in snow! That way all those who are forced by mother nature to be ;D "fair weather riders" ;D will know first hand how it is for us unfortunate (or dumb) (lol) enough to live this far north....
Regards and such,
49Reo
;) I am in for that and we can see how many people from the south actually show up, but thing\king just the mention of free food and some will travel. lol.
-40 is ok if I am in my right gear and ready to go ice fishing....lol....
Well, the leaves are peaking here in Indiana too, but with temps barely hitting the 50's and me still trying to get over this dang cold I've been fighting, I'm not sure a long ride is in order. might have to go for a quick jaunt though. If I make it out I'll have to drag the camera along. As for a northern drift-in, can I make a request for sometime warm....like July or something! ;)
Hmm, -40 and up to your armpits in snow...
I can do that, I know how to ride a snowmobile...
one question...
Do you mount the front or back drifter fender on a Skidoo???
45 Bravo
Quotesnowmobile
LOL how aMerican...they are called snowmachines, or simple a sled.....lol...... :'(
pcarrell I am going out if it does not rain and the avrage temps in F is going to hover about 40 to 46 this weekend if the weather seer's are correct. For you we will make it July, or Aug depending on the blackflies......
Typically American,
Well, I am...
So much in fact that tomorrow I have 2 things planned.
Riding my motorcycle, then going to the shooting range after that...
I might take some photos at both...

@ pcarrell. Now that's a sled.. just need a gun rack and your all set ;) @ratman thanks for the black fly tip. I do want to make a trip up North one of these days. I'd hate to show up during the full on fly hatch. We get those June bugs and this year I got nailed by a cicada one day. Which prompted me to put the windshield back on. I'm waiting on the grass to dry this morning so I can get the grass cut and go ride today.
Well this is Canadian Thanksgiving and so a three day weekend, and the Weather seers are calling for three days of rain, so once I get the kitchen painted, the sink plumbing done then if it is nice I'll go for a ride, if not slave away do as much as I can then if tomorrow is good off I go...........Chili also don't come here during the shadfly week.......
Start of a Shad fly North Bay's Finest .MTS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0F9o4be-paM#ws)
Shadfly Invasion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfxeq8uNIoI#ws)
my fish in the tanks just love them ....collect about 100 every morning for them
They call the nasty things Mayflies around here, although I don't know why, since they show up almost anytime....This year they were in the latter half of July. We have a couple of bridges over the Mississippi, and sometimes they are so thick the city plows them off the road. GAWD, do the piles of them stink in the morning!
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/weather/news/2006-07-07-mayfly-radar_x.htm (http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/weather/news/2006-07-07-mayfly-radar_x.htm)
One of the bridges had a steel deck on it and the bugs would get so thick that cars would lose control on the slippery mess, so the State came in and welded little knobs on the steel decking to help with traction...didn't help motorcycle stability much...
Well HAPPY THANKSGIVING to our brothers up north!!!
45 Bravo
Wow! I think I'll come up for some shack fishing and sledding and skip the summertime bug season. No wonder you guys like the winter. I think the next road trip will be west instead. lol
OK, so......CDN, I'm noticing a pattern here. 2/3 of the year my northern neighbors are buried in a frozen tundra. July and August are black flies, and then there's shad fly week, so that accounts for most of the nicer months......so I'm beginning to wonder....is there a good time to hang out up there? There must be, because a lot of folks live there.... ;) But I mean, you can certainly see where one might begin to wonder.....
