Title: Picking a shipping company
Post by: DC on September 16, 2012, 11:12:49 AM
Just wondering if you bought your bike and had to have it shipped to you, how did you pick a shipping company?  Which ones are the best ones to use?

I used "haulbikes.com" for my W-650. The price was reasonable, the service very good, and it'a all they do. Their trailer is fitted out for just motorcycles and atvs. I believe I paid $575 for shipping from Florida to Wisconsin...that was 3 years ago, however...II'm sure the price has gone up

Thanks for that Troll!  I checked out their site.  Looks like they aren't newbies to hauling bikes.

I've seen prices all over the board from different companies.  At the very low end is UShip, which scares me to death.  Every see their TV show. . . . I know it's for dramatic effect, but they always seem to damage something.   :o  I think they are their own worst enemy with putting all their mishaps on TV.  I would never use these people for shipping a bike.

It's important to remember that the guy you talk to on the phone is just a broker.  He has a stable of independent drivers that he calls on to book a transit.  Many like to lead you to believe that they own the trucks and the drivers but in reality they bid the job out with a pool of drivers.

Check out http://www.transportreviews.com/ (http://www.transportreviews.com/)  They review transporters by reputation.  Pick out the best.  They don't cost an more and they do the job.
