Title: chain replacement and oil gauge lens
Post by: ernie on June 27, 2012, 12:50:36 PM
Well i found another drifter that i will try to get. only things that need help is chain should be replaced soon and the lens over the oil guage is missing. I found i can get the chain around 85 + but I have been quoted labor from 150 to 300. I have worked on my own cars but never on a motorcycle. only chain i have replaced is a chainsaw one lol. How hard is the chain to replace? I know i need the tool to break and set master link. if anyone know of a vid of it being done that would be apprecaited. plus I have called kawasaki dealership about the lens and none around here know where to get one, anyone know where might find replacement? any suggestions much appreciated.
thank you ernie

( sometimes trying to google something comes up with everything except what your looking for )

I cut my old chain with a die grinder, and used the old standby master link with a clip. I have used a standard chain with a clip link for 50 years, and even my 98" SuperGlide couldn't break it...The only difference between the riveted link and the clip link is the clip. The clip has no load on it, so it's like it doesn't exist...It took me a whole 1/2 hour to size and replace the chain on my W-650.  What exactly, do you mean about the lens on the oil eye?

about a half hour for you probably translates to an hour and a half for me lol. the plastic lens cap is broken ( chipped ). guess it isnt a big deal but details like that will end up bugging me.

The lens is glass...I believe, and is double paned. As long as it doesn't leak. You can get a new one, and replace it pretty easily.
