I am thinking I like the blacked out version better than the chromed out version and since I'm looking used was it '99 to '02 = black and beyond that is chrome?

Hmmmm...... may have to reconsider the "blacked out only for me" idea. I am thinking simple custom paint scheme if I find what I want and the color is not to my liking.

my 1999 1500 is also blacked out...very little chrome

I'm an 800 guy, too new to go 1500, really don't want all that power. My line of thinking is the 800 is modeled after a 1940's Indian. those bikes from that era in general were not that powerful. Hence I'm sticking with that theme and thinking that the blacked out with a paint job like orange and black with the blacked out forks my look retro cool.
