I just bought a 2000 800 Drifter. It has no engine guards.
I'm having a lot of difficulty finding any for that year and engine online.
Does anyone know where I can get my hands on some? Preferably black.
Rear crash bars would be cool too.
Thanks!
I've never seen them IN black to buy though I've seen them on some 800s. JC Whitney is where I got mine.
Year doesn't matter. Not many black around, but they are available in chrome through various outlets.

Thanks guys!
One more question...
Will a engine guard for a 1500 work on an 800?
you may be in luck
i had a black engine gaurd on one of mine and i damaged it in a crash. since then i haven't been able to find a replacement so i am having 3 made up using the damaged one as a pattern. one for each of my bikes and one spare. i could easily have a fourth made up as well.
HOLY CRAP YES!!!!!
How much?
still waiting for the quotes to come in to decide on who's going to make them but i will let you know in a couple of days. i am in Vancouver B.C. Canada.
Okay. I appreciate you letting me know about this.
I have looked all over for an engine gaurd for an 800 Drifter if you know of anybody that still has one please post me an address. The only one I have found is in England and its a black one made by Ledrie.
Thank you, Amishart or Art Stone on Vdr Facebook
Did you read and follow the links in this message?
I did, I'm still drawing a blank. Plenty for the 1500 none for the eight except Chromeworld may have a black set, by Ledrie. They are supposed to get back with me. I will check Walnecks swap meet coming up Oct. meanwhile if anyone has a phone # of a store that has a set leftover email me. Please astone52@bellsouth.net
Thanks, Art Stone
have the same problem .. Kawasaki no longer makes them nor can i find anyone who carries them .. Scootworks lists them as discontinued ...
If anyone finds them please post a link ...
Thanks !
Found it on ebay .. a guy in Hampton NJ has them ..
I bought some off ebay, think it was this guy. Price was not cheap, but quality is good. Had to trim the center mount at the top(not a big deal) where it attaches at the horn.
They are thicker than normal, think it is 1 1/2 ,real stout.

Hi Jamman, found chrome engine guard for 800 Drifter at Cycle Mart, here are the links:
http://www.shopcycle-parts.com/productdetail.htm?productId=5877320&browse=196448&shopBy=6588&catalogId=1120 (http://www.shopcycle-parts.com/productdetail.htm?productId=5877320&browse=196448&shopBy=6588&catalogId=1120)
NOTE: the cycle-parts dot come link has been removed. The company has sent us an email telling us to remove all links to them from our site. As a result we will no longer allow any reference to them, and recommend you go to http://www.ronayers.com for your parts needs. - Chief.
Regards, Adrian.
They don't have it either. It's an old posting on their website. Sorry
I bought a front and rear set from the guy in NJ also. Had to trim mine at the horn mount too, but other than that no problems..........
I just ordered from the guy in NJ. Hope it gets here soon!
Does he have an e-mail or do you have to go thru E-bay. He makes quite a lot of accessories for the Drifter and has been on E-bay for some time. I just no longer have an ebay acct.
geofitz@hotmail.com
He called me as soon as I placed my order. Said if I went through him instead of ebay I would save like 10% off of the ebay price. He also sent me an email with pics of his other items.
Have a great Labor day!
Got mine installed ... it was a tight fit !! had to install the two top horn bolts first .. get longer ones from hardware store as the stock bolts are a bit too short if you are mounting the horn back in the original spot .. then I had to play with the bottom bolts a fair amount but I got them to line up without any mods ..
Jamman,
Thanks for the tips, read that to my mechanic/hubby ;D. How long after you ordered them did it take for you to get them?
Arrive in about 4-5 working days ..
Thanks to everyone for the help in this thread. I'm going to try the guy in NJ. I haven't tried Ted Strubles rear bars, but I bought his Drifter Shifter and am real pleased with the way it works and the quality of it if any body is interested. I'm sure his rear bars are the same quality.
What is the guy in NJ seller name?
seller name: fitz1932
name: George Fitzsimmons
email: geofitz@hotmail.com
phone: 908-432-2641
I ordered a seat rail from this guy in N.J. (George Fitzimmons) on 8/31. I still do not have it 09/12. I requested he send me a tracking number on 09/03 - never got a reply. I called him on 09/04 and asked for a tracking number - he said it's shipped but he was not at his desk to give me the tracking number but would send it to me on Monday - I never received it. I called again on 09/10 and he said "my wife mailed some packages but I don't have the tracking number right now, you call me tomorrow" (09/11), and he gave me a 3 hour window to call him. I called on 09/11 (during his window) and got his answering machine and left a message. He called two hours later with a tracking number. He had just mailed it that day (09/11) at 2:15 in the afternoon! That's 12 days after I ordered it and paid via PayPal! I don't mind the long delay in shipping the rail nearly as much as I mind the dishonesty in telling me several times that it had shipped when, in realty, it had not shipped.
I've never recieved email with tracking number. I emailed him on the 10th & his reply was that he has it drop shipped from his fabricator & should be en route. Let us know when you recieve it.
will a vn 800 classic engine guard work on the drifter 800?
Engine guard came in the mail today! Waiting on my mechanic/hubby to get home to install it as well as my light bar. Can't wait! Oh yea, the crashbars were shipped from Belgium! No wonder it took so long for them to get here! And I thought they were coming from NJ! Geesh! My bike may not get to go around the world but my engine guard already has been.
glad you're getting some new stuff added to your new ride! I bet your having fun now ;D
Yep! It was fun helping put on the engine guard. But, the light bar that JC Whitney said was for the Drifter 800.... isn't! I've gotta send it back & try again!! Oh well, off to a swap meet tomorrow. Maybe just maybe.... find some sort of something shiney that will work on it somewhere.
You can always drill the existing light bar and add the lights from J&P Cycles .. Did that to mine and it cost about $70 out the door and looks factory ... took about 2-3 hrs
There is a mod on the website for what jammin is talking about.
Thanks Jamman & Chief. I will show that to the hubby & see what he says.
I bought a set of the crash bars from George Fitzsimmons and just got them put on. I had some problems with the top holes had to grind out a little with a pencil grinder. I believe the bars probably met the print when they went to the plater but metal will tend to relax in the bends after it sets a while. The quality of the bars are excellant, good looking welds, deburred before being plated and heavy duty. I believe they are 1.375 in diameter bars. These are not just for show, George returned my calls ever time and I would do business with him again. The rear bars went on easily and they look good. Hope this helps sombody.
