Title: Replacing throttle cable - question on grip re-assembly
Post by: jamman on July 15, 2010, 12:57:47 PM
I took off the ape handle bars that came with the bike and putting original bar back on .. put on standard throttle cables and re-assembling the throttle tube/grip

There is an o-ring around the throttle tube where it goes into the grip .. does the o-ring go between the tube and the grip halves to provide a seal ? I tried putting it inside and on the outside of the grip halves but it binds when I screw the grip halves together ...

I just put Kury ISO grips on my 800 and don't remember an o-ring at all.
I did get a spacer to put inside the left  grip that looked kinda like an o-ring.
Could this be whatyou have?

Well I found the exploded view on the kawi website and it does not show an o-ring in the assembly for the throttle control on the handlebar .. maybe the previous owner added it when he put the apes on ..

I suspect he was using it as a throttle lock of sorts. We used to do that a lot with HD's.
