Ok, as stated in my intro, I've got issues, so be nice to the newbie. ;)
I've been riding for about 6 weeks now and have spent some time cleaning and going over my '99 1500. One chore I've done is pulling all my electrical connectors to clean and add a little dielectric to.
In doing this, ended up with no lights, tail or head. I checked junction box and found taillight fuse had blown, replaced it and they work fine. Spots and turn signals work too, but still no headlight. Checked FSM and performed diagnostic on junction box and got negative on headlight relay and starter relay. What's odd is, starter works fine, so it makes me wonder if I'm testing it correctly. FSM says to only use Kawasaki hand tester, but I use a fair quality ammeter/voltmeter.
I'm using my spots for now, and limiting my nighttime riding, but could use some experiential input.
start by turning off that god awful red letters.....maybe the bulb is burnt out...try a different bulb
oops...forgot...welcome to the sight.....:-)
Yeah, the maroon makes the text next to impossible to read.
Simple first... check the bulb... next headlight relay.
OK, sorry bout that color, was godawful. Great way to start my membership.
Checked the bulb, and now that you can read it, you can see what else I've checked. Thanks for the teardown, keeps me humble.
Are you saying you didn't get the correct readings from the relays? No one was tearing you down. With colors on a computer what looks ok on one monitor to one person may be unreadable in other circumstances.
I assume this is a US bike, the light is off when you turn on the ignition and stays off after the bike is started.
If you popped the tail light fuse, you may have also popped the headlight fuse. Additionally, there are diodes associated with the headlight relay that require testing. You may need test the junction box... I think the FSM has that info.
