Title: 1500 top end
Post by: 04Drifter on July 13, 2010, 01:00:33 AM
I suspect my buddy's 1500 top end has some issues, making noise from that area and runs rough.
I read about the tensioner problem, but this isn't a clicking sound.

Sound like it's rebuild the valves, heads?
Any idea what that would cost at the dealer?
Thanks

Are the spark plugs the right kind and torqued properly?
Anything lose; surrounding parts?
Checking the cam chain sounds easy enough to eliminate that.

Yeah start with the simple stuff before breaking into the engine. check the tensioner, replace plugs, check wires etc.

Rattling exhaust header chrome cover?

LOL... one of the first things I discovered is the deep fenders really catches sounds and moves them around. I had a buzz and clatter sound that I searched for over months... finally figured out it was spring on an exhaust heat shield. The sound was being caught and diverted by the front fender so it sounded like it was coming from the front end...

LOL indeed.  When I picked up my 1999 at the dealer they'd forgotten one of the front fender bolts.  It rattled like a cement mixer full of rocks.  I drove a block and went right back.  Quick fix and I've never heard anything but smooth since then.

Wondering if the plug wires are both firmly down on this bike.  If one were not contacting it might give a misfire like sound.
