Title: Trumpet Horn?
Post by: plevine1 on April 19, 2012, 20:48:32 PM
I am "toying" with the idea of installing a dual trumpet air horn. Not really in love with them, I think they look a bit odd on a Drifter. My goal is to get loud.

Anyone have other suggestions?

Is there an easy way to wire this up?

Thanks

Have you considered a Stebel Nautilus air horn?  Very compact and LOUD.  You can find them for $50 or so.  I'd recommend getting the wiring kit to go with it, makes installation way easier.

Here's my roughed out install of a 135 db air horn from Harbor Freight.  Cost me $14.00 and the install was a bit of a PITA but it's LOUD and looks OK.  It'll be better when I get the kinks worked out of the mounting bracket and for the price... you can't go wrong.

They look good on there.

Where did you mount the air compressor??  Did the horns come black, or did you have to rattle-can them?

Oh no, they were red :/ I hit them with two coats of flat black and one coat of matte clear coat.  I put the compressor just above the radiator, once I get the BS sorted out with the mounting etc I'll post up a full install guide... I have to admit I sorta halfassed it for now.  If I have time tomorrow between work and Rollerderby practice I'll get shit sorted and post some updates.

I have the compressor in the left side compartment. These things look vintage and sound great... much better than the oem.  Of course they also cost a lot more than the harbor freight models... but I really like them.

I just bought my Drifter and the PO installed a dual trumpet air horn. I'm not sure what the make or db level is, but it did send a cage that wanted to merge with my lane/me in the exact opposite direction.
