Title: Vanity plates... cool or not so much?
Post by: Ironraven on April 17, 2012, 12:47:55 PM
So I'm pondering getting a custom license plate, something along the lines of DRIFTR or some such depending on what's available.  Then again my bike has the "old school" look and a custom plate wouldn't quite fit in with the image.  Minnesota does have "vintage" plates that are just black and white and I'll be getting one of those for sure, just thinking that the custom plate might be cheesy... but might be nifty too.  What are your thoughts?

I got this plate when Wisconsin first allowed vanity plates on motorcycles...like 1990 something....I have the new version now, which is smaller and black and white...I put a frame around it since we finally have a "normal" size and I can. I wouldn't have chosen the barbed wire, except it came on the replacement plate mount I got on eBay so I could put the reflectors back on. The previous owner hack sawed off the reflectors.....some people's kids...anyway, what do you think?  Where in Minnesota are you?

My bike is a silver/ebony 2005 and the previous owner had "HIHOAG" on it. AG stands for silver on the elements table, therefore, "Hi Ho Silver." I thought it was cute but didn't keep it. Only because I don't want to pay the ridiculous amounts for vanity plates. I have the USAF plate on my bike and it is really good looking...and free...in Texas.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it other than I have more important things to spend money on.

I agree the price is high here in Oregon around $130.00 for two years. I got my vanity plate three years ago it says
"1SG CAV" the plate is orange with black lettering.  It had regular plates when I got it.

@ Troll, I live in Wrenshall, which is just south of Duluth, I dig the teacher plate :) what do you teach?

@ alamo the science geek in me loves the HIHOAG, that's awesome!

I haven't decided for sure if I want to do it or not (I suppose I can always do it next year...) but at least it's not that expensive for us here, I think it's an extra $35 a year which ain't bad all things considered.  Then again, that's a bottle of decent whiskey so...

I'm looking forward to tweaking my scoot and posting pics!  Thanks for the input guys.

In Spain there is no way of getting such a plate. I only know that in the UK they can.

I've had them on almost every car/truck I have ever owned.  I'm sure one will go on my Drifter once I determine its personality and theme.   Below is a list of some of my custom plates.

JST4PLZR
2DCHANCE
FRDMSEKR
FRDMCHSR

I like reading them!  Florida doubled the price on all tags so in my case its just not worth the money.
