Hello everyone, I went out today to start my Drifter, she fired right up but the the clutch lever had zero resistance on it. Its not disengaging the clutch at all. This has the hydraulic set-up and there is a master on the bars, and I assume the slave is down below at the tranny. I believe one of the two is blown, is one more common to go than the other?
Thanks for reading, -Vinny
That sort of failure isn't common... start simple and check the fluid... the master can be troublesome if the fluid and seals have never been changed.
At least with a '99 you don't have to remove the chrome cover on the left side to get to the slave cylinder.
My '02 would (in the spring, after sitting all winter) not disengage unless I held the clutch in for up to maybe 2 minutes; once I rode a bit, it was always good. i switched to Kawasaki synthetic oil, never had that problem since. I realize this is not your situation, but food for thought...also, upon start-up, the little man with a hammer hiding inside my engine ;D would go tap-tap-tap in the top end until it warmed up; not a peep since I switched to synthetic oil.
Regards and such,

Thanks for all the info, the synthetic engine oil is a great idea, I hear that rap -rap too when its cold. I ordered a seal kit for both slave and master. I forgot that the slave is out in the open, funny I wasn't too crazy about how its mounted there when I got the bike, but now I'm sure glad its not buried. Fresh fluid and I should be back on the road. I'll post how it goes.
