Title: Clickety clickety click
Post by: Redbeard on June 18, 2010, 09:50:52 AM
Guys and Galls,

My baby ('99 1500 with 8K miles) has started making a terrible sound. It's a clicking definitely coming from the motor. This is much like a previous post here about certain RPMs/speeds. She sounds great while idling... give some throttle and poof... here comes the click. I've used all the tips on VDR trying to make it go away. Changed the oil, changed the tires, changed the exhaust seals, tightened the exhaust heat shields, put rubber spacers in the exhaust bracket. I even listened to her scream with a stethoscope!

The shop tells me it might be the tensioners going bad. But with 8000 miles? He's quoting $200 in parts alone.

I'm at a loss... any ideas?

Tensioners are easy to do,no special tools needed, no need to replace whole unit. Use this page as a guide to check tensioner and get pieces. I did mine at 12000, works great!

Sounds like it could be the tensioners to me as well. At 8k it shouldn't be happening, however. I think there is a mod/fix for the tensioners over on the web site.
