Title: What's the difference between powdercoating and painting?
Post by: lefecious on March 09, 2009, 22:30:51 PM
Because I have some chrome engine guards that I need to get black to match my frame.  I was thinking of just painting them black.

They are different coatings and will vary a lot by what is used. Powder coating looks better, usually and can be extremely durable if done correctly. But painting can work just as well. Google paint vs powdercoating and you will likely get a bunch of info.

Cheers.

Powder coating is a totally different process.  It's used electricity to draw the powder to the parts and then it's baked.  Pc is more durable and so if the part is in a vulnerable place I'd go with Pc.

What Bob said... but there is also an expense difference to consider. Also there are some black "chrome" paints out there nowadays. Not really black chrome, but its a LOT less expensive.

Cheers.
