Title: Cylinder Head Covers - scoured
Post by: drifter-paul on February 14, 2012, 18:29:49 PM
Have the engine out of my '99 1500 Drifter. Thinking of cleaning up all the EPA plumbing that sits (and rubs) on these aluminium (?) covers. The covers have long scour marks where the various hoses run (air and radiator).  The deepest is about 1mm and 100 long. The covers are $167 each.

Is there a way to re-condition these (does J.B. Weld  work on aluminium) ?   I have seen elsewhere on the forum , where someone has powdercoated later model covers , to give the earlier aluminium look. I'd do this if i had a way of filling the depressions first.

JB works on aluminum, not sure how it will take powdercoat, though.

Regards and such,

powdercoating will not stock to jb weld,

powdercoating works by electrostatically charging the metal

you can use jb weld to fix the damage but you will have to have them painted if you want a matching color throughout
