Title: 2000 800 Color Question
Post by: TripWire on January 28, 2012, 15:03:35 PM
From what I have been reading the colors the 2000 Drifter 800 came in were Sky Blue or Pearl Burnish Beige but mine is Turquoise Blue-Green (I think it's the same color the 1500 was that year).  From what I have  been reading the fenders and tanks are not interchangeable so what do I have here?  From what I was told by the previous owner the bike has not been repainted.  Are there any other colors out there that came from the factory that have fallen through the cracks?  Don't really care if it's rare, just curious.

Yep those were the only two factory colors for the 800. The 1500 choices were deep turquoise green and the same beige color as the 800. Put it in the sun and take a couple of close up pics for us to look at.

I went back and found a pic of your bike. I see what you mean. I am a bit color blind and computer monitors do impact shades of color. Also, surroundings can modify a color shade, but it does look like the color used on the 2000 1500. I think the 1500 color is a bit darker, but its hard to tell from the pic I saw.  Did you buy from the original owner? Did he special order the bike? In any event, if the bike looks the same in person, you may have a uniquely colored 800.

I will have to keep a look out for a 2000 1500 to compare.  Here are a couple more photos:

not sky blue for sure.  I think it is too close to the 1500 color to be a repaint. Is this a Canadian bike?? Any indication it was a special order??

Green Bay - is there a way to run my VIN to get more info?

There are VIN decoders online, but the vin won't tell you the color. But you can also purchase a carfax (or similar) report that might be of value. CycleVin and InstaVin generate reports similar to carfax. I ran one on my bike a while ago, knowing there should be nothing there... and there wasn't.

Put a 411 out to Kawasaki and here is what they said:
"The VIN you have supplied indicates this unit was Pearl Burnish Beige, this color was used on both the 800 and 1500 Drifter models during the production year of 2000.  This was a standard color offering that year, actually the unit (800) was offered in the Pearl Burnish Beige and a Sky Blue option while the 1500 Drifter was offered in the Pearl Burnish Beige and a Deep Turquoise Green option."

So there you have it, my bike is "Pearl Burnish Beige".  It must be hiding under the Deep Turquoise Green paint.   :P
