I'm looking to put apes on my 99 drifter 1500, the question is how long are the stock cables?
As in are they long enough for 12in apes or maybe 10 in apes....
I need to know somethign along the lines so i know how long of cables to order if i go with say 14-16in apes on the bike
I believe the cables and hoses will handle a 12 inch... as I recall. I believe its tight and some re-routing is needed.
Here is info on the stock bars, cables etc.

Thats exactly what i needed to know...
my bike had 2.5in risers now so if i wanna go with 14in apes i would need +5 cables so might as well get +6
ready to order some stuff, anyone have any pics of different apes on their bikes and cable/hose length to share
16" apes on stock risers I think the brake line was 54" and everthing else is stock.

Wow, really?
I cant believe they would reach that far, if you were to rotate the bars into a verticle position do you think the cables would still reach?
And also how tall are you and where do 16" bars have your shoulders at, even with bars or your hands up/down from them....
I'm 5'10 and setting on the bike holding another set of bars it looks like 18's or 16's with the 2.5in risers would be just right for me holding my hands right above my shoulders
updated~
does anyone know the stock length of all the throttle cables and the brake and clutch hose?
I'm thinking of ordering them all by length instead of a +8 or we from a site and saving money...
I'm 6"1' , and my hands rest about 2 to 3" below my shoulders. my seat is lower than stock about 1" and back from stock about 2".

The apes are from J P cycle about $ 70.00 and are for a Harley
thanks, now the last question of the day,
i know are banjo bolts take a 12mm socket so when i order the banjo fittings do i order 12mm of are the threads different or what?
i decided to build my own brake and clutch line (edit- apparently they will be out of stock from months so that is out)
12 mm is the size of the hex on the bolt and has NOTHING to do with the size of the fitting. You are going to have to measure the diameter of the actual bolt. Normally, the head size is about 4mm greater than the shaft size, so my guess would be 8mm for the banjo fitting, but that's just a guess...measure twice, order once!
Seeing 12mm banjo bolts it what threw me off....
most metric stuff is 10mm threads (fine or coarse)
problem is i dont want to have to pull one out and then rebleed the system, too much of a pita
I was able to add 10 inch mini apes to my Drifter. I did not change my cables or hoses. I did have to reroute the controls all accomodate but it did allow it.
