Title: Does 800 have a factory alarm ?
Post by: cochise on April 27, 2010, 21:30:51 PM
Had my 01/800 for 2 weeks now. Have to get a manual as it came with nothing. The seller handed me an alarm that he said kept going off when he removed the battery so he cut the two wires. It has one of those round keys ( that I didn't get) . He couldn't remember where it was located on the bike. Is this a factory piece ? It's black about the size of a potatoe.

I have a 2001 800 and the manual says nothing about an alarm. I think it is something the previous owner must have put on the bike.

most of the bikes made in that time frame did not come with an alarm.  I actually see very few bikes come thru our dealership and service shop that have an alarm system.  Mine is an 02 and does not have one, and when you look at schematics for your bike on MotoGrid or Babbitts there is not an option for viewing alarm system components, most of those are after market, although some dealerships offer it as an add on when you buy your motorcycle, so some people would consider it factory installed but really its a dealership specific option

No if it has an alarm it is an aftermarket alarm. You will have to find the box to determine what it is. Look under the seat, side cover area, etc. Should be easy to trace from the key slot.

Thanks, it was likely some add on that was more of a pain or it wouldn't have been chopped off. Hopefully theres no live wire hanging where it "used" to be.
