Hello fellow Drifters!
Tomorrow I get my 2000 800 Drifter.
This is far from my first bike, (my bike addiction started oin 1967), nor my first road bike. I'm good for 2-3 bikes "projects" a year, I lust for them, buy them, fix them, get bored with them, lust for another.
This one is gonna be my youngest boys college grad gift, so it may be @ for a while.
The guy I'm getting from like many owners, knows squat on the bike, so I have a million questions from the "guys who know"-you guys!
(one thing this computer is good for info on bikes)!
More than likely they are posted here somewhere, but I'll be dumb and ask again....
This scoot has 25,000 miles, seems to run Ok
What stuff from a Vulcan 800? 900? fit?
First thing I noticed, it handles like sheet.
Got a Bridgestone front tire, Dunlop rear, (haven't had luck with handling with the Bridgestone tire)
What's most people running tire wise, (I know it's a can of worms), or let me put it to an easy answer- what does the bike come with from the factory)????
What are some thing I have to check, watch out for???
it needs to get rid of the "George Jetson WTF 2 up seat" and a more period solo seat, any ideas where? Will a 800 vulcan seat fit?
It has a pair of fish tail duals that are too loud on my 53 year old ears, (For some reason at a certain RPM loud bike make my ears hurt, too many years racing 2 strokes and playing gee-tar in a rick band I guess).
What are my chances of scoring a stock exhaust somewhere? Any ideas as to "period exhaust style" aftermarket, that isn't too freakin loud?
The windshield brackets are there, but no windshield, One thing I've grown to like, a nice tall windshield.
One of the disk brakes sound like it rubbing, any special brake pads to get, (one work better than the other)?
I saw a Drifter with the Indain style air cleaner cover, where can I score one of those, front motor crash bars?
Is there anyplace that specializes in Drifter goodies?
As soon as I sign the title, I'm off to a dealer to get a shop manual, as well as a aftermarket manual, for the maintenance info I yearn for.
Let's see
Seat
tires
windshield
crash bar
brakes
air filter cover
I think I covered the NEED NOW info
Thanks
Joe
So many bikes, so few $$
Have a look through previous posts here for answers to a lot of your questions. Also look on the web site in the accessories and the mods/tips section... (http://www.VulcanDrifterRiders.com (http://www.vulcandrifterriders.com)).
Corbin still makes two-up and solo seats for the 800... one of the few.
This is the crash bar I have on my 800... I like them, they're nice and thick and match the bike well. imho.

If you want to sell the 2up seat when you find another you like better, let me know, I'm looking for one.
There was a guy selling some good looking solo seats on Ebay but he hasn't listed any thing new in a month or two. I think I have his email if you want it LMK and I"ll send it to you in a PM.
Correction!! the guy on ebay has listed a seat. I dont own one so I dont know about the quality>>>

thanks!
I cruised through Ebay yesterday and found most of what I'm lookin' for.
Bridgestones? WOW! Considering how it turned with the Bridgestone on it (and the way my Harley Handled) that's intresting..........
The seat thjat is on there on is the one that lifts up away from the fender, it's more like BMW stle than a bike looking to copy an Indian?
I have a hard time looking past it, IF the guy comes today and we finalize the deal, (it's raining to beat the band right now), the first thing to go is the seat!
I was looking at the thread of belt drive, you know you get a few bikes with belts and you realize how good it is not to worrry about a chain.......
Joe
What would I do if I didn't buy bikes and work on them? Could you see me out golfing?????
