Title: Backfire on shutdown
Post by: seanb on August 17, 2011, 20:56:06 PM
Took the bikes out for a trip last  weekend. The first time we stopped to fuel up my stock 2000 Drifter 800 backfired thru the exhaust. It has done this a couple of times the last few years I have owned it, so I didn't get nervous. The rest of the day every time I shut it down it would backfire. On Sunday on our way back home it was the same thing, even when I started it to move it for a couple of minutes before we left. Other than the backfire the bike acts perfectly. Weekend before last I went to New Orleans with no problems. I plan on pulling the carb down this weekend to check the diaphram. Any other tips?

Likely cleaning the carb will help or resolve the issue... let us know what you find.

I'm in the middle of doing that now. While I have it down I am doing the scooterize mod, so I won't have it back up till after next weekend. Waiting on K&N filter and pipes. But I'll let ya'll know how it turns out.

Everything seems to be fine now, no back fireing on shut down. I haven't had an issue since putting it back together. Quite a bit more power, and sounds great.
