I'm new to the Drifter and haven't had a chain drive bike since the 70's. What is currently the best chain lube? I have some old spray chain wax but I don't know about the best current products. I would appreciate any guidance.

Modern chains share very little with those we had to screw around with back in then. They last longer and don't take as much maintenance. But they still need maintenance.
"Best" chain lube is one of those subjects where opinions abound.
