Title: Stator upgrade
Post by: VN1500 on August 04, 2011, 07:57:35 AM

Has anyone ever done?..or thought of doing,.. a second stator install on a Drifter?..like those on a Nomad / Classic?

My Drifter has only two additional tail / stop lamps. With the roadlamps on,..[I added a volt meter] it appears to be charging just barely enough.  right on the edge. And I'm wondering if it might be worth the cost & work to boost it up to the Nomad system. It does meet specs,..but the OEM roadlamps are only 35 watt each.

My Nomad has additional tail/stop lamps, + 55w bulbs in the roadlamps, & I use heated grips when cold, & it charges plenty.

I emailed Guy Mobbley at Sherm's Cycle Products last March. He says he has done it before. Below is a copy his response to me. Still considering this upgrade for this winter.

Yes, I have made this upgrade before, you will need to hard wire a voltage regulator into the wiring harness.  and you will need all of the components for a double stator and rotor charging system. I believe that I have everything that you would need for the conversion except the second voltage regulator.  If you are interested in this charging system 541-271-5610.  I would sell it to you for $250.00 plus shipping to you.  This would include the side cover, rotors, stator and all of the small hardware.  Thanks for inquiring with us.
