A couple of questions... is this your first bike? Is this the oem saddle?
The stock seat is pretty soft... too soft for me. The Corbin is a LOT firmer... which I prefer... but some folks find it too hard.
My point here is, if you aren't used to riding it may take a while to get yourself used to the saddle. If possible ride a bike with a corbin before you go that route. It isn't for everyone. I have used them for a long time and have them on all my current bikes.
Secondly, "sore" is a relative term. Softer seats tend to create hotspots which result in sore spots on your butt... commonly called "monkey butt". I've never had that problem with corbin seats. Muscle soreness can be caused by riding a new (to you) bike and can take time to cure. Or it can be suspension or seat caused soreness.
Dear Pain in the Butt,
(just joking!) Have you tried reaching back and adjusting the damping rate of your shock absorbers and are your tire pressures, especially the rear, set correctly? These two factors greatly influence the upward forces coming at your butt and, more importantly spine, neck and head. I like position #3 but probably have a different physiology than you do: 6' 3" and 200 pounds. #1 is the softest and the bike acts like a 1968 Olds Delta 88 in that position; riding on a cloud.
I have the stock two-up seat too so I get to move around a bit more than you do on long, 5 hour rides. I think my 1999 1500 is the most comfortable bike I've ever owned and I've had a beemer and many others.
Hi, guys. I went on a relatively short trip a couple of weeks ago to French Lick, Indiana. After just 50 miles, my butt was pretty sore on my solo seat 1500. I'm not sure if a Corbin seat would be more comfortable or not but I know it would be expensive. So, has anyone tried a gel seat cover or some other cover that worked well? Do they look good on your bike? Any issues with them? Thanks in advance for your help!
