I used phosphoric acid (from home depot). Pour it in and let it sit like you said. If I remember correctly, it's the same as metal rescue but cheaper. I think I paid $15 for a gallon or something like that. I initially used cider vinegar and BBs to clean mine, and it worked okay, but not like the phosphoric acid. One note about the BB's, they're a pain to get out of the tank. A magnet works well, but they get stuck in all sorts of places. Also, I would rinse it with  WD40 or something if you rinse it out with water so it doesn't flash rust. As for sealing, I never did seal mine. I read a ton of reviews and some seemed better than others, but none seemed trouble free. And if there were issues with any of them you were worse off than if you had a rusty tank. If you keep it full of gas when you store it, it won't rust.

Make sure what ever you use to seal the tank can stand up to alcohol fuels. Don't assume. If it starts to peel, inside you will have a huge mess

Guys I'm getting ready to de-rust my tank and then seal it and want your input. Here is what I know. 1st wash with hot water and soap. Maybe include some bb's or bolts in there to break up the rust. Remove water and dry. 2nd pour in metal rescue and let sit for 8 hours minimum.. On each side if not filling it all the way to the top. 3rd. Remove and wash out then dry. 4th pour KBS gold seal coating in and slowly move around until tank is fully coated. Dump out excess if there is any. That's it... Obviously plastic wrap the gas cap in all the steps. Thoughts? Never sealed a tank before
